From 4/5 yesterday to 9/4 today for him to join us seems pretty generous though, regardless on money being put on him to join Newcastle..

Calling Trix for clarification.. feels a bit like this ship is sinking... Mayday, mayday Hooray, hooray!

Takes very small amounts to shift the odds on stuff like this. Anything sizable being put down and the bookies close the book quick smart. Remember this is not a sporting competition, some people will know the outcome before it happens so bookies do not take risks with these markets.

Good choice, swap jeremy peace for mike ashley:)
There may be contact between the clubs but that doesn't mean he will go there, personally I doubt it anyway.

Cheers Trix. Appreciate that info & certainly makes more sense now. A third of the way into the window and not much has happened yet.. nothing new I s'ppose! Let's hope we hear something positive re Saido by the middle of this week.

Any idea whether finally ousting Fazio would hasten things up on the recruiting front Trix? Perhaps a hold up is due to things happening at our end (Berahino)?

With Berahino cup tied, he's surely a less attractive prospect. He'd be more likely to start in the FA Cup for us and now that's not possible this year

Yeah I think if we were going to get him then at least we would have heard of a bid before this weekend. Saying that, we still need a striker for the league too so I wish we'd go for it.

We're buying players for the long term - maybe a 5 year contract - so in the grand scheme of things its not a major thing.

FA Cup is maybe 5 matches more versus ay 18 PL matches and 2 - 10 EL matches.

Shame he'll be cup tied if he comes (and we are still in the cup) but its not a show stopper

I could definitely see Newcastle throwing a large sum at WB for him.

They're in dire need of a goal scorer and it would definitely increase their chances of beating the drop quite significantly. In fact they'd probably end up comfortably in mid table.

I'm not sure what our intentions are but I sincerely hope we don't intend to leave it to the last day or two to start a game of transfer chicken with no alternatives on ice should nothing happen.

One way or another we need another forward in to cover Kane.

If Leicester knock us out him being cup tied doesn't matter anyway, silver linings.

I get we're going for a player in the long term but we have pressing short term need which needs dealt with. SB's change in circumstances has damaged the ability to meet this short term need

If we are to progress to the Final, SB being cup-tied could be a blessing as no doubt Kane will play in the Final and BS would feel short-changed to have played a part in getting us there if he weren't .

On your basis, which I agree with, is one big reason why it's unlikely we will buy a striker this Jan. If we want a long term, best value, best we can get striker, we have to wait till the summer

Son isn't fit to play as a lone stikrer and N'Jie is yet to prove himself. If Kane gets injured we're in big trouble. I think that Berahino would not only be a good addition but is a necessity

its a toughie.

Think we'll buy or loan someone, preferably someone we want long term, but will that be a Berahino/Batashayi or a youngster (like Dembele) or a short term solution I think is all up in the air ATM (or at least to the fans it is !).

Think that DL will realise that the upside to getting in someone is very good this season

F*ck value for money - we need additional firepower right now. So pull your finger out Levy...

Not really about value for money. Teams don't sell there best players in Jan. Why striker can come in and compete with Kane that's it wanted elsewhere?

True - but if you fail time and again to bring in a striker in the Summer, you're putting yourself in the position where your hand is forced in January. Levy only has himself to blame for being in this position. And doing nothing is NOT an option...
