Samuel Eto'o
27 years old
Striker

He is a versatile player who, in addition to being a prolific scorer, is also known for his playmaking and defense. He is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, with sixteen goals; he is also the record holde in number of appearances by an African in La Liga.

Spurs make Eto'o contact

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Barcelona about the availability and asking price of Samuel Eto'o for next season and have been told that he can be theirs for 35million euros, according to a report.

Marca state that Barca have been receptive to Spurs' enquiry and will now wait and see what the English team's opening gambit is regarding price.

Juande Ramos was quoted as saying that if his club want to compete with the top four then they would have to sign the best players, like Luka Modric and Eto'o, and now appears to have followed up on that statement by making an enquiry.

Barcelona are set for a summer of sweeping changes and could be prepared to offload any number of stars in order to finance a rebuilding programme that will mean at least ten players going.

Eto'o has stated recently that he would leave next summer if the club endured a third season without a trophy, but the attraction of a move to the Premier League may help Tottenham's cause a year early.

With Frank Rijkaard looking likely to leave, the big names from Barca's Champions League triumph two seasons ago are also said to be on the way out with Ronaldinho and Deco, among others, to be offered to other clubs.

While Eto'o's name had not been highlighted before by the Catalan press as one to leave, a large bid from Tottenham could certainly have them working out how viable it would be to keep him.

The former Real Madrid forward is no stranger to interest from the North London outfit as he was expected to join them from Real Mallorca 12 months before moving to Camp Nou and he even dedicated a goal to the club's fans.

Spurs' interest in Eto'o could further cast a doubt over the long-term future of star forward Dimitar Berbatov - who continues to be linked with a big-money summer move.

What you meant to do was post something like this:

Tottenham 'in talks' for £27m Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has launched a sensational swoop for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, according to reports from Spain.

Sports daily Marca today claims that representatives from the Premier League club have already met Barca officials to talk about the Cameroon star’s transfer to White Hart Lane.

"Tottenham's next target is clear, it is Samuel Eto'o," the newspaper said, adding the English club has already approached Barcelona "to sound out the possibility of carrying out this recruitment".

Barcelona "has shown itself to be more than welcoming and the two sides have agreed to meet next week to negotiate the transfer", the newspaper added.
Marca claims Barcelona are prepared to let the three-times African Player of the Year go for a fee in the region of £27million.

Eto'o, 27, who is contracted to Barcelona until 2010, recently hinted he was seeking a new challenge away from the Nou Camp following a trophy-less season with the Catalan giants

"If things carry on next season like this, well, I want to win titles and if I can't do that here, then it will be an another club," he told local radio station RAC1 last month.

Spurs get peek at Eto'o price tag

Barcelona have reportedly told Tottenham they must stump up around £27.5million if they want to sign Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o this summer

Marca state that Barca have been receptive to Spurs' enquiry and will now wait and see what the English team's opening gambit is regarding price.

Juande Ramos was quoted as saying that if his club want to complete with the top four then they would have to sign the best players, like Luka Modric and Eto'o, and now appears to have followed up on that statement by making an enquiry.

However you look at it, with the wages and transfer fee, its just too much money. Can't see it happening.

I don't think it will happen. It's just positive spin from the club. Like what Dan Ashcroft has said, if United or Chelsea come in for Berbatov, we'll turn round and ask for Tevez and Anderson or Essien and Mikel etc. It's us letting the rest of the world know what sort of bid we're expecting for Berbatov.

lol - I love it!

SCer 1 - Which players will take us to the next level guys?

SCer 2 - I don't know, but to hell with any truly World Class players, they cost too much! Let's sign Richard Dunne instead!

But we need to sort out the defence as well. Things have improved since the start of the season, but we've still shipped 1.4 goals a game under Ramos—53 a season. That's nowhere near good enough if we want to be in line for a top four spot. (Unless we score 90, that is.)

I think its more of a case that we physically wont have the money to make it work, even though im sure he'd cover a lot of those costs through merchandise etc. Anyone thaty wouldnt want him is mad, but i just dont think we could ever stump that sort of cash up for one player when considering our midfield deficiencies at the minute

Another proper CB and some continued stability for the backline, along with a great DM to protect them.

And Yes to Eto'o! :hump:

if it is true that we're seeking a sponsor for part of his wages, it must mean that we've a basic agreement with Barca and the man hinself.
