playing top 6 away - sit back more and hit on counter, playing at home - high press.... good formula IMO

Christian Eriksen has made the fifth most chances (67) in the entire @premierleague this season. #THFC
Like you, I don't think Eriksen has been playing as well as he can and he is not finding incisive passes enough, yet this stat seems to suggest he is still creating a lot of chances, even though we don't necessarily see this.

like most stats used on here, it's fairly ambiguous. how do you define what a chance created is? does him whipping in a dead ball count as a chance created? interestingly, @Bus-Conductor's favourite site whoscored.com has scored eriksen an average rating of 6.9 in his appearances as a #10 and 7.46 as an aml, as well as an 8.76 in his lone appearance as a flat left midfielder. it's also worth noting that in 20 appearances as a #10, our friend christian has four goals and one assist ... which coincidentally is the same as he's achieved in just nine games playing on the left. just as my suspicions confirmed, eriksen is doubly effective out wide as he is central
Well of course those ratings are going to be increased if he's scoring more out there. But what they don't and can't account for (your ambiguity) is the lack of defensive stability on whatever flank he plays on, especially in a high line system. At least Sherwood had the sense to drop the line back somewhat while Eriksen was playing wide to help prevent counters working down his side.
I think the most ideal solution is to play him in a system/formation that suits him, not put him into a different position because it makes him more effective numerically but to the detriment of the defense. He is not good as the No 10 in this congested system as he's not quick enough with his feet to create his own space or turn away from a defender and press forward, and him playing wide in the high press directly exposes the fullback behind him. Erego, the best solution is to play him in a slightly deeper 4-3-3 with other players accustomed to it, and hot damn how nice is it that opposition managers don't actually know exactly what our formation, lineup, and system is going into every single match?
i think your first point has been blown out of the water these past few weeks, chadli has proven to be no better going back than eriksen is and eriksen offers nowhere the same protection for mason and bentaleb as dembele does. hopefully poch recognises this soon but i'll believe it when i see it.
