I remember hearing how we informed him he was being let go.
Wasn't very good but he's still loyal to the club.
What a guy lol
Agree if he was playing today he'd probably have had a lot less injuries and obviously, given how injury prone he was, he was never going to go crunching into tackles like a loon.
Great player.
That was our fault, watch the video I posted earlier. We destroyed him and created all his problems...

So glad that dark era is over with and thing have changed for the better. If Anderton was 19 today, he would be become world class and would have reached the ranks he dreamt of.

Best crossed of the ball I've seen at Spurs and very likeable guy.

Shocking to hear his comments about the poor medical treatment he endured

I remember discussing with @talkshowhost86 one cold windy night at the Lane and he said he preferred Anderton to Ginola.

@talkshowhost86 and I haven't spoken since. ;)

But I do have a fondness for ol' Shaggy.

Maybe controversial here, but Anderton in his prime on right wing was better than Ginola IMO as he provided more goals and direct assists. He was complete and utter quality prior to injuries in 1995/96 season (although still managed to turn it on at Euro 96).

Loved Ginola, but lost track of times he took stupid greedy shots at goal rather than scoring and considering how often he took shots rather than crossing he should have scored even more really.

Don't get me wrong though, would love both in their prime on each wing (with a polite word with Ginola to curb his greedy shooting a bit and use his undoubted skills to provide more).

He was a great player, just a shame he was so injury hit.

I think if he was playing now, he would not have half the problems he had. I think he would have flourished as he was so naturally talented.

"Medical centre was shambolic"

Such a shame to hear our medical centre was so shit then.

Mind you the evidence is there in plain sight.

As well as Anderton for most of 95/96 season the following season was even worse.

I remember Sheringham and Armstrong were injured for a LOT of that season and we ended up with Rory Allen and Neale Fenn up top, utterly ridiculous.

Speaking of Armstrong we ruined him a bit too, obviously nowhere near as good as Klinsmann but he was still pretty decent in tandem with Sheringham.

I remember first game of season we beat Blackburn 2-0 with Armstrong playing very well and getting both goals, i can't remember the defence but midfield and attack was:

Fox Anderton Howells Sinton

Sheringham

Armstrong

If we could have kept them fit we'd have had a much better season, I know Sinton wasn't spectacular but a more functional left winger than Rosenthal was lol.

didn't Klinsmann and CA have a high strike rate than Klinsmann and Sheringham for the first half of the season. I remember it was all going really well, then injuries started happening.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they did.

Was appalling how often Sherigham (who only got 7 league goals that year as injured so much and was still top scorer) and Armstrong missed games due to injuries.

A lot of blame was put on Gerry's 'terror tuesdays' when he ran the fuck out of them but QPR never had as many injuries as us and seeing Dazza's comments explains a lot and makes me feel angry and sad at what could have been had Anderton, Sheringham and Armstrong been kept fit and played as many games as possible that season. Sheringham and Armstrong really were a top notch partnership and with Anderton providing for them...

In 1995/96 you could see how much additional class Anderton bought in last few games he played.

We'd have built on that side and maybe Sheringham wouldn't have felt he had to leave. This was the season it really started to go downhill as at least in both previous years we'd had a decent crack.

It may have been Sheringham and Chris, as CA came of Klinsmann left... Still, I think they got a higher strike rate than the previous year.

Yup, that was when the rot really set in. Sugar saved us yes, but he also really screwed us at the same time, he tried to do everything on the cheap and quantity over quality.

I think after City's games against Madrid, fighting for each other and showing they care is far more important than a few dirty tackles. It's the 'Adebayor' attitude I cannot accept.
