Certainly is a theme of this window, first Keita Balde and now Aurier. Can't knock us for trying to get players of the very top quality that are 'damaged goods' (attitude and or short contract) rather than good but not great players, but I always think messing with suspect characters is a bit too much of a risk.

A lot of Liverpool fans and Rodgers himself probably thought Balotelli would change and would be a steal at £16m, didn't work out like that.

I'll support him and hope for the best if he comes in, but it does worry me...

I agree with what you're saying regarding Balotelli, but he wasn't even doing it before pool took a chance, at least with Balde and Aurier they have (as far as I know) been performing reasonably well

That's my thought as well. These are players that have some question marks regarding their personalities but it's not affecting their overall play. Keita scored 16 goals last season and Aurier is one of the most well-rounded fullbacks you will find in football.

Might affect Aurier's play if he's not even allowed in the country :D.

But football is a team sport. You have to consider how it affects the team, not just the player.
He may do his job well, but his teammates may not trust him in defense, or may not pass the ball to him.
Having a good group of players is very important imo. And certainly Poch also believes that

Not a fan of this guy, really don't like players with too much attitude and I can't see him being too happy rotating with Trippier.

He rotated with Meunier at PSG, though tbf I have no idea whether his behavioral issues were tied to that. I think he'd be happy being played in the most important matches and rested against mid-table dross and in the domestic cups, which is probably how it would work out.

How many homophobic outbursts has he had? If it's just the one then he needs the benefit of the doubt and to be given a second chance.

If he does it again.... that's when he becomes a shit bloke in my eyes.

There are still many countries in the world and a lot in Africa where it is illegal to be gay. This is difficult to understand for a lot of us but I it can give licence to a homophobic culture in young men specifically. This will improve over time as religion loses its grip and education replaces ignorance.

Young men will make mistakes and should have the chance to learn from them. I am not proud of a lot of things I said and thought when I was 20.

Let's not use these things alone to write him off if he becomes our player. Poch is a thoroughly decent human being and will not tolerate a troublemaker.
This is an excellent point, and one that I had never considered before when thinking of him as a **** for his comments.

Naturally, people are a product of their environment, what may be acceptable when and where he grew up isn't necessarily the same for someone who grew up in a different community in England or the US or wherever.

I know this one has been quiet ITK wise, but FWIW JJ has liked the following tweet:

So Spurs sell Walker and Wimmer for £65m buy Sanchez for £35m & 'are close' to Aurier deal with £10m to spare.. #LevyTime #COYS

Could mean nothing, but passing on for those interested.

Interesting. That's the second tweet linking us to Aurier that JJ has liked.

No smoke without fire etc.

If we feel he is the player we want, in terms of skillset on the pitch, it's then a case of looking into his personality. It looks like he's made a few mistakes in his life, ill advised incidents and outbursts, however, for context, and I don't know the answer, but how recent were these outbursts? Is he growing out of these episodes, has he apologised for his conduct, genuine remorse, and shown a willingness to mature into a more professional individual. If the answer is yes, then I don't have a problem with us signing him.
