I think he'd be a great signing and would put us firmly in place of having the best defense in the league. Funny as a few years ago we were a complete shambles.

I could imagine this could potentially lead to a Walkers-Peters loan where hes 'guaranteed' playing week in and at the right team that can only be a good thing.

But football is a team sport. You have to consider how it affects the team, not just the player.
He may do his job well, but his teammates may not trust him in defense, or may not pass the ball to him.
Having a good group of players is very important imo. And certainly Poch also believes that

I think we have a strong core of senior players that can, and will, police the rest of the squad into falling into line. The culture is strong, and as such you'd have to hope/believe that the player in question would be the one to change to fit in, not the the rest of the team changing to him.

Sounds like this basically hinges on whether he's allowed into the country or not. No that much of a deal breaker then....

After the hard work that went into removing the bad eggs from the squad Poch inherited, this seems like a step backwards

They were characters already here that Poch didn't sign, but also didn't like. I'd assume that if we sign Aurier, it's is because Poch feels he is not the same type of character.

If KWP & CCV are to be loaned out, I hope they both go to the same club so that they are able to develop an understanding in defence before returning to us after the loan.

Hoping we get this done. I'm sure we've all made mistakes, but when it comes to football ability, he is not in question. Will be a top player for us.

He rotated with Meunier at PSG, though tbf I have no idea whether his behavioral issues were tied to that. I think he'd be happy being played in the most important matches and rested against mid-table dross and in the domestic cups, which is probably how it would work out.

Interesting point, especially given we rotate full-backs, is there a chance history might repeat itself? Just pondering, think he's a great player.

It's been said before but he is young and is likely to make mistakes. But he has apologised and i dont think this should be held against him for the rest of his life.

The assault charge was because he elbow'd a policeman in the chest and the policeman had to take a day off sick. It's not right but i'd say calling it assault is stretching it a little.

As for being homophobic. As some people have mentioned before he comes from a different culture and potentially where being gay isn't acceptable. Again not right but i think we have to give him some benefit of the doubt here.

Perhaps a move away from Paris to somewhere new is the break he needs.

It would be good if we could find a club to loan players out to each season. KWP wont get a huge amount of game time for us this season and I can see a lot more benefit of getting 30 odd first team games under his belt in the Championship or similar.

I'd be concerned about his character for sure. However, the 'bad eggs' that Poch jettisoned from the club before were more the 'forming factions' types who were deemed to be undermining the principals Poch was after. To me, Aurier seems like a hot head who reacts first and thinks later. Maybe Poch can sort this out and we'd have a very good player on our hands. We know Poch likes the 'bit of nasty' Dele brings to the picnic.

Didn't we get a snippet a while ago (or maybe it was from a podcast) that a whole lot of our scouting/tracking of a player is actually non-football based and is to do with character?

It'd therefore surprise me if Poch didn't think he was a good enough egg.

I suppose the only doubt to that is Sissoko. But hey, you win some you lose some.

He also signed Osvaldo when he was at Southampton.

I think this side of Pochettino is overstated. I'm of the opinion that he likes the challenge and, as long as the player is willing to buy into the values of the club and the standards he sets, he's willing to take them on, despite character flaws.

Plus, Poch's ideals and values are so heavily embedded at the club now, new players with potential attitude issues will likely be more positively integrated

Wait until he see's all of the posters of our players with 'watch us rise' written all over them. No way he'll sign then.

To be fair Sissoko's attitude has been fine since he joined Spurs. Willing to work hard and not caused too much of a fuss about not being in the team. He's just been shite haha.
