We desperately need him. I've had misgivings about him but tbh I'd be delighted with this signing as we are crying out for him.

Aurier
Sancho
Foyth
Barkley
RSessegnon (Maybe)

Would be excellent.
But Sancho and Foyth won't necessarily walk into our match day squad. Aurier will be decent, don't think Barkley is the immediate upgrade; just a bench player. We need some serious pace, technique and strength in our final third

Anyone still want to moan about him saying a few naughty words? We're absolutely desperate for him.

Or we could just acknowledge that we both need him in order to improve as a team but also that he brings with him baggage that should be addressed? Not a pop at you personally, just feels like these kind of posts (some of which I am guilty of posting myself) have gotten us nowhere for about 30 pages now

Pace, strength and technique needed to provide something else in the final third. The scousers have Mane and Salah and they look much more potent than us.
Yes they're both good players but we play possession based football. Liverpool play counter attacking football. Having mane and salah in our team wouldn't help us where teams Park the bus. Infact their attacking threat would be nullified completely due to lack of space to run into. What we lack right now are the pace and attacking play of rose and Walker to really unsettle the opposition down the flanks and create more space for the likes of Eriksen and alli to do their work. So I don't necessarily see a pacey wide forward as a more important signing than a strong, fast wingback. Atm Trippier and Davies are not providing that threat down the flanks enough. Signing aurier and getting rose back will be HUGE for us

Watching the game today, we need better options off the bench. Sissoko as first sub tells you everything.
Aurier, Foyth, Barkley and a WF/CF with pace to give us something different, is an absolute must, with only a few days to pull it off. Big task. Sounds like Aurier is all but done, Foyth too. Barkley we're told is mostly done in the background, sort a fee and it'll go through quick. Leaves all focus on getting some dynamism higher up the pitch.

ok, so have to admit that i know more about this fellows off the field antics (cons and pros) than his football ability.
Does anyone on this thread feel capable of giving a summary of his on field qualities/ level and what we should expect from Aurier the player? Particularly interested to hear from those who have watched him play more than once!
Cheers!

  • He's a right-back
  • He has pace
  • He has played a lot of first-team football
Anything else is irrelevant.

Fast
Strong
Good dribbler
Can cross

Extremely powerful athlete similar to Kyle Walker in a lot of ways except I would say he's better under a high ball and in the tackle can be hot headed and can throw himself into tackles but realistically I didn't ever in a million years think we could sign him.

Even if we still had walker I'd want him as I'd see him as an improvement

Agree with most of what you say. But having pace and technique would make a difference. N'Jie and GNK have had limited opportunities because they had pace in abundance but not the required technique. It doesn't matter whether it's Rose, a WF or both that surge out wide-we need to be looking at stretching teams as wide as possible on that fucking great big pitch and only having two WBs and Son who can do that can catch us short, especially when one of them (currently Rose) is injured

Problem is Sancho is no more developed then Edwards. Sessegnon is a kid too ( although at least has some first team experience).

In fairness Sancho is quite a bit ahead of Edwards. In the recent U17 Euros, Sancho was the player of the tournament and Edwards was used mainly as a sub.

Sancho is much more ready to play a part in the first team squad than Edwards at this precise time imo. :)
