I know I'm not the only one who is thinking this, and lets hope we really will know the outcome of the decision by the end of today, it's not been unknown for decisions by the Home Office to be issued late, if this is the case I think it is highly unlikely we would be given special dispensation to complete the signing after the deadline which is very fast approaching, anyone' s thoughts ? I hope we do not have to consider this or be reliant upon this. I fully accept could be accused of being pessimistic.

In any event we better have a plan b in the event that his application is refused, because the only plan we will have if we do not get specific dispensation to complete the deal after the deadline day if a delay occurs or his application is refused is the current options we have, and how many of us are really satisfied with that ?

Think plan B is Trippier and KWP.

But multiple deals have happened right at the close of the window pending work permit approval. So long as the deal between the clubs has been signed and approved prior to the close of the window, I think we are ok to get the permit approved after the window closes. We've done as much as we can, it's out of our hands.

Or...

We identified a right back that would otherwise be out of reach for us, except for the fact that he has a sentence hanging over his head. Bigger clubs are unlikely to pursue because they won't wait, which allows a relatively free run at him, but leaves the issue that he may not get the clearance. Perhaps we decided the other options available earlier weren't worth the hassle, but Aurier is, and a gamble so worth it that we were willing to stick with what we've got if we couldn't land him?

Poch has talked repeatedly of being clever in the window to find opportunities our rivals wouldn't take. This strikes me as something like that.

I think it's clear we wanted a right back once Walker left. We've been linked with Perreira (sp?) and the chap at Southampton, and then with Aurier. So for me it seems clear that we felt there was a gap there, and whilst I'm not freaking out too much about Trippier's performances in the last two games, I doubt it will have convinced Poch that we're sorted in that position.

Just seems an odd way to do things to think that a position is worth spending 25m on (which we appear to have agreed) but then not have a back up particularly when there is an issue like this Visa thing.

We'll see though. Perhaps there is a back-up option, or perhaps we rely on what we have.

This isn't the thread for politics but I think Spurs might have jumped right on top of a political hand grenade with Aurier. With the immigration debate a hot button issue in the entire western world right now we probably should have seen this coming.

Fucking hell :ROFLMAO:

Aurier would be an improvement , but I think Trippier and KWP are capable, wont be the end of the World if that's what we end up with. Both have impressed me.
Did you miss the Burnley match? There was nothing impressive about Trippier's performance Sunday. Perhaps KWP is the answer but I know Trippier isn't.

Every player has an off day, what about his performances the tail end of the season, thought he looked a real threat going forward.

I recall Martial skinning him alive for Man Utd's goal in the home finale last season. He might be okay against lesser competition where he is only responsible for eith defense or getting forward but he doesn't seem to be capable of doing both. Burnley's goal was merely the last in a string of mistakes by him in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately it does all have a "we tried but you know....." feel about it:

Barkley - off
Aurier - off
Balde - joined someone else
Martial - tried but no luck
Sancho - City pulled the plug
Lemar - tried but no luck
Sessegnon - tried but no luck

Oh but here is a 3rd choice GK and 2 very good young centre backs to strengthen the part of our team that actually doesnt really need strengthening.....

.............Poch is going to be delighted!

Re-watch any Liverpool match with Walker at RB and tell me you're being fair here.

I agree he can do better in some situations but it seems odd that the comparator bar is now beyond that of his former rival for that spot.

I just don't think he's good enough to be our first choice. Pointing out that Walker wasn't always perfect doesn't change my feeling that Trippier is often not perfect. I like the lad as a person. He seems like a good kid who gives everything he's got....I just dont think it's enough for a top tier club. I would be happy to keep him as cover but that's my honest opinion.

Hard not to feel that way. but there is something different about this window with the level of itk and the confidence/positivity of itks. Also, if poch doesn't get roughly what he wants he'll start seeking a way out imo. As he doesn't fuck around, he's probably made DL aware of this.
