Pochettino has currently got a pretty talented Southampton squad to eighth. Even we beat them twice.

It's a solid start but I'd hardly say it's spectacular. I'd say the jury is still very much out on him.

I'm not sure I agree. I think the only thing holding Southampton back from being higher up in the league is lack of quality. In the same way that Rodgers and Martinez have thrived from working with better quality squads I believe Pochettino could do the same. Plus being the same nationality as Lamela you would hope he could get the best from him.

I'm sure that Levy already knows who's coming in. It's probably LVG. However, I think we should look into the possibility of Diego Simeone, he's one I really admire. Not sure on his grasp of English though.

If he decided to leave one of the top sides in Europe to come to Spurs then I'd be more worried about his grasp on reality.

It doesn't even tickle the number under its nutsack. When Jol got his marching orders we had to create a whole sub-forum to accomodate it all.
That was a horrible time. Thanks for remiding me. im just off to count the number of managers we have gone through since then.

I may be some time.

Clearly LVG should be our number one.

But Pochettino still appeals to me a bit. A bit more of a gamble yeah, but if we can't get any of the bigger names I'd be up for it.

Has got them playing a really nice brand of football. The only thing that concerns me is that they do drop off the pace they set for themselves sometimes. Like they press from the front very well for periods and then then they tail off in that respect.

But the likes of Soldado and Lamela, could be a very tasty combination that - with a manager who can relate to them directly. They're our record signings and this guy would manage them infinitely better I reckon.
I'm a big admirer of Southampton's aggressive style as well. They look like an organised unit that look fit and athletic, it suits the English game as well, unlike AVB's more passive style which i'm not quite sure did.

Would be a massive gamble but I couldn't think of many others if we couldn't get LVG or De Boer.

I swear Pochettino's face has got significantly fatter over the last 6 months, he's turned into some kind of Managerial Football Hamster.

Now, whenever he does an interview I dive for cover from the TV - Scared of being showered by dry-mix.

I have highlighted this section because I dont think this should be the chief concern for us right now - even though we are playing dreadfully. The group of players we have are capable, if they are adequately directed, to also play a nice brand of football - Harry and Jol proved to varying degrees that it doesnt take much to sort this problem in the short term. The problem we have is more of a mental one with the players not having the winning mentality and enough direction from a manager who is highly respected in the game. This kind of manager needs to be the type who the players won't dare to question, who when he sticks the boot into the players they won't give him the jip that an AVB or Sherwood might get. A manager that brings a bit of fear factor. Harry for all his media image also had that to him to his credit and so did Jol to a certain extent. They can be, in their own right, intimidating.

Whilst Pochettino is a talented manager I don't see the authoritarian in him (i may be wrong). Additionally, there is no guarantee that he (or FDB for that matter) would stay for any longer than any other manager, in fact I find the younger managers tend to be more impatient and want to move a lot sooner than the middle-aged crop of managers.

For me the main factors should be:

1) Will the manager command the respect of the squad and is he likely to be questioned by the squad or the board?
2) Does he have an extensive proven track record of winning titles and experience of dealing with difficult situations?
3) Does he follow a certain footballing philosophy?

That's why for me a manager like Pochettino and also FDB should not be considered for us at this time. They are both too young and don't have the clout that a manager like LVG or Ancelloti have. When we can develop a successful team with the right mentality then you can bloody well employ who you like because even someone like Avram Grant will get you to cup finals and champions league finals. But until then we need someone to tell the players whats what.

Of the current options LVG is the least risky and the only candidate I would be entirely comfortable with.

Well, with knockers like that I reckon it could be quite a bit ;)

Whisper in his ear that Levy has been sleeping with Bentaleb, that should escalate things nicely.

Sorry DD but Tim has said that he'll take up the borrowed seat by the touchline tonight. Probably he knew you might spoil his peace.

For the people saying "it's only Sky Sources"- can you please shut up.

Tons of other media are saying it as well AND Sky Sports spoke to Sherwood basically saying he can't say anything at the moment and will speak later- basically he's not denying it.

Please. It is not just Sky. Shush.

Worst kept secret in football.

More chance of flight MH370 turning up at Heathrow than Sherwood leading us out in August.

Given what he's said (unless it's been twisted) too then there really is a fair bit behind it.

It just seems really bizarre it's coming out now of all times. If true then this has got to be all accidental, hasn't it?
