Harry does like his mavericks too - think back to Di Canio.

So what is the answer? I'm genuinely interested to know what people think...

I think it's not unreasonable to assume that the manager who's got us our best league position since 1990 and our best points total since 1987 knows rather more than us lot. Let's face it, if Jol had paid any attention to fans' opinions we might still have dreck like Kelly and Ziegler lining up for us.

If Harry decides to persist with dos Santos, fine. Unlike Taarabt, Gio appears to be a team player and have a brain. If Harry decides to give him the bullet, I'm fine with that, too.

In the same way that Hoddle knew that it was better to play Doherty up front than Rebrov ? Or the same way that Jol decided that Mido would be a better fulcrum than kanoute or that Ramos decided we could dispense with Kaboul after one bad half of football.

Managers, no matter how much we like or rate them are capable of mistakes or letting personalty issues cloud or influence judgement. All of them.

If they are successful you can forgive them, but it doesn't mean you can't call it what it is and apportion blame accordingly. They'll take the plaudits so why not the blame ?

Ah my perennial fence sitter.

Way to rock the debate. :sleepy:

But that is extremely problematic. We know very little about what goes on in training and in the dressing room, nor the impact of it on the pitch. It's easy to pick out good players who managers rejected for worse ones, but we're a. using hindsight and b. not party to a full set of facts. If Gio punched Jamie Redknapp, say, as many would like to do, would it be reasonable to expect Harry to put personality issues aside?

dos Santos has had seven starts and eight sub appearances for Spurs. Judged purely on his performances in those, he's a show pony who looks good against lower league sides. He certainly wasn't our best player in the first leg against Shakhtar (and even if he had been it wouldn't have said much), and whilst he did score a cracking goal in the second leg it was about the only thing of note he did. Not for the first time, he was outshone by Campbell. That isn't a great endorsement.

Still, I'm not going to write him off as I haven't seen enough of him, and I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes, I'll leave it to Harry.

He has a tough tough game today. I picked Argentina to win the WC before it kicked off so I feel like he won't get many touches today.

But I still think he as an individual won't be out of his depth. I'm really looking forward to it. COME ON MEXICO!!!!

Don't worry, no ones likely to ever appoint you to a footballer judging panel. The ability to tell shit from shinola would almost certainly be a pre-requisit.

Lennon in a midfield 3 and Gio in front of him, in the same team? Really? :duh:
