Some of the racial abuse Sol Campbell received from a lot of Spurs supporters was despicable it wasn't a one of either because Adebayor too received a level of abuse that crossed the line...I was ashamed by what I heard.

I don't care if people agree or not. I respected Sol Campbell as a footballer. I thought he served our club with distinction and honored his contract. A transfer fee has never been agreed or exchanged with Sol throughout his career-he is a deep thinking man and I admire the strength he showed. Personally I don't have it in me to hate to the levels I saw or sing about him hanging from a tree like some people.

I'll always welcome Sol back to Spurs.

Seeing as you have such a good understanding Perhaps you should turn that wonderful message into a banner and bring it along to our next game.

I actually had the dubious pleasure of meeting Sol about 2 weeks after the Arsenal news broke. I was introduced to him and Gareth southgate in sugar reef (club/diner) in windmill St, soho. I was with a 2 friends, both now ex pro's and some of their friends including Frank Sinclair, who is without a doubt the nicest pro footballer I ever met, a true gent.

Anyway, I had a conversation with Sol a d explained I was a spurs fan. He said he just wanted to win trophies and that was the only reason he left and that if Spurs at the time were challenging or looking like challenging he would never of left. He wasn't arrogant about it and to be fair I never wanted to rock the boat with my pals by being rude to the dude as he was pals with southgate. But he went in depth about his desire to have a career with trophies rather than one without. I said I understood, but didn't like the way he handled it in a civil way and left it at that and moved back into conversation with my friends.

It took a lot of strength to walk into a £90,000 a week job of playing football for one of the SKY 4, whilst not having to even worry about moving house.

Herculean strength.

In a ground of 36000, you would probably now be made welcome by about 3, so bringing your c**ty mate along is a bit rich...

I dont remember any racial abuse to be honest. Plenty of homophobic, but no racial.

I wish he was still playing so we could continue to abuse him since he's so obviously thin skinned.

It's a sad day when Spurs fans are abusing each other over that ****.

Its not about that ****.....for me this is more about some 'Spurs fans'', talking absolute shit on this subject.imo.

Like i have said many times before on here, you have to be carefull who you chat to on here, there are various types of 'fans' on here, some of the quotes on here prove that and lead you to ask the question of are they real fans, wind ups, or just casual fans who don't grasp what the club really means to most of us on here and subsequently the actions of the players who mean or meant so much to us.

it was an extremely painful event for Spurs fans........almost a betrayal and the term Judas wasnt used lightly. Sol was a hero to many. The Ledley King of his time. It was a kick in the guts. I think if he had not engineered the run down of his contract so deliberately and we had got something back for all the years we invested in him from the time he was a young lad, it would not have hurt so much. But the man had no honor. Sure, I can understand him wanting trophies but why depart in such a way from the club and fans who loved you by spitting in their faces. He'll always be Judas to me.

I met Sol and the rest of the Spurs players for their Xmas party in Sugar Reef. He must have been a regular. He told me he wasn't going to leave and that he would 'NEVER move to that lot' (his words not mine)

You are ridiculous. Just because people don't hate Sol Campbell doesn't make then not "real fans".

I was on holiday when Sol left, 14 years old in Rhodes. I read it in the Sun that he had turned down Barcelona to sign for Arsenal. I was gutted. He was the second Spurs player I had on my shirt whom had then subsequently signed for a team I hated (after Sheringham to Man United). I was never aware of what he said up until he left so I couldn't feel betrayed etc. I can't be annoyed that he left for a team who weren't better than us - cos they were a million miles ahead of us. The only thing I could be angry about was he left us for Arsenal - that in itself was never enough for me to hate him (although that was probably aided by Ledley's rise to prominence). Hate them... yes, hate him... not particularly.

I remember that article stating he didn't want to leave his Mum so he had to sign for a London club. That was probably bullshit but I accepted that at the time, ultimately through naivety and as a coping mechanism. But that naivety has left me thankful for his services, appreciative of his footballing ability yet an increased hatred for Arsenal...

But I am still a Spurs fan, like you - just one that doesn't care about Sol Campbell...

Cue the dislikes...

Whenever you think about judas he was the man that saved Wenger bacon. He revitalised them.
The man who was a spurs youth player and captain.A man who told the fans , he would never sign for them while setting up a deal. His last game for us was that semi final, where he oddly enough went off injured.
The abuse and laughter you received off every Arsenal fan was down to him , adams and wright both said they woukd never have signed for spurs in any capcity or role.
9 million pounds wasted on Richards.
Did you also know he stated, when he finished his best playing years, he would re-sign again.Thats how much respect he had for us.
He could have gone to any club in the world and he chose them and he stabbed us in the back.
As danny kelly told sky andrews about sol going back on his under the moon tv show or working with him on the radio," when were are both old sitting on a porch on opposite sides of the street sol, iii still hate you".

Amen

Il never let it go. You live and die by what you do. He did what he did and knew he would have to live with it along with the rest of us. Ultimately he hasn't really been able to live with it and nor sadly have we.

He will not be remembered as a great player foremost, he will be remembered for that move. He got his career but at what cost to him personally and his family? Too high a cost I would say.

It's more than football, it's life, love and family till you die.

To be honest I think that's the fundamental difference of opinion on here. And I respect both sides of it. For some football is a very separate thing to life, love and family. For others it's an integral part. To both sides the reaction of the other to this "betrayal" seems ludicrous so I think no about of debate will make the other side see things differently.
