I’d put money on that being the case. Ambrabat in and Ndombele out. No others in and Dele & GLC stay.
Then we miss top 4 and the story in summer becomes we can’t afford to go after top players bc we didn’t achieve top 4. This club is extremely predictable but the penny will never drop for many sadly.

To make a comparison to his Inter side, it seems pretty clear to me that Conte would try to use Amrabat in the Barella role and Hojbjerg in the Brozovic role, with Skipp alternating somewhat between the two. I guess for the 352 the idea is for Sarr to come in next season as the third CM because I've no idea who else could play that role right now. Maybe Winks? Come to think of it that's probably why we're so often going with the 343 currently.

When we have played 3-5-2 (away at Leicester the most recent example) we have played a deep lying play maker in the Brozovic role - Winks, and then roving CMs who are defensively hard working in PEH and Skipp (think Barella and Eriksen* for a Conte @ Inter comparison). PEH is not suited to the Brozovic role at all, which is why he has played Winks there in a 3-5-2.

*Worth noting Eriksen played a totally different role at Inter than he did with us, and that is why it took him the best part of a year to break into the side.

Ambramat appears to be a PEH like player. Defensively solid, good ball turnover, he is better at resisting a press than PEH, an I would see him playing as one of the roving CMs in a 3-5-2 (competing with Skipp and PEH) or be part of a double pivot with Skipp or PEH, where Winks is maybe a bit too lightweight defensively to play in a 3-4-3.

If he’s is the only chap we get in, and on loan, it’s not a million miles from the Saha and Nelsen window. No ambition.

Good point but I think Hojbjerg is definitely suited to the Brozovic role, and this lineup is more just because with a lack of personnel AC considers the attributes of Hojbjerg in the further forward midfield role more significant to the team than Winks' potential deficits in either role. I think a stronger lineup would move Hojbjerg to DLP and have someone more creative and dynamic further forward, with Winks I guess covering at DLP then and Hojbjerg maybe covering for mystery 3rd midfielder in that scenario.

For now I would expect it to be Amrabat/Skipp/Sarr who would vie mainly for the two further forward roles though I guess in the 352.

I've been trying to be patient and not be too negative, but would be incredibly typical Spurs if Amrabat on loan ends up being our only deal on deadline day.

Let's wait and see what happens because it sounds like there's a lot going on behind the scenes and we did business differently last summer under Paratici. Levy isn't in complete control of our transfer policy anymore so there's no reason to assume this will be another Nelson/Saha or Frasier Campbell on loan scenario.

Safe to say only bringing in Amrabat when Conte has obviously asked for 3/4 players would be a total joke, though.

People comparing him to a lesser version of Dembele, isn't that a good thing?

I can't think of a player better suited to playing in a midfield for Conte than Prime Dembele, his strengths were exactly what Conte requires in a CM. Not expected to do too much creatively, just win the ball, keep possession, transition it and keep it simple for the forwards and wide players to do the damage.

Dembele and Conte would have been a match made in heaven imo, I'm literally struggling to think of a player better suited to that criteria..
Loved Dembele. Absolute monster. In a way I was surprised nobody bigger came in for him, particularly when practically every single player interviewed in the squad said he was the best. Such a unique skill set, which is why he is so hard to replace.

Money is tight. We barely have any attackers. And so we buy a fourth defensive midfielder to double down on our money and creativity problems.

Reliable sources in the media are telling us Conte wants him so what's the issue? Either we back the manager or we don't. If he turns out to be crap then the blame party lies with the manager for asking for him to begin with. I'd be more concerned if Conte asked for this guy and we went for a fancier sounding name that he had no interest in.

At present we have Kane son Lucas bergy alli Gil and lo celso all playing to be in a front 3…… I want creativity in our midfield as much as the next guy but conte doesn’t seem to have that ‘role’ in his midfield 2. Let’s hit lie and pretend we’re under stocked in attacking areas. We need to balance a cf amongst all these others but we’re not light

Yeah, maybe we are backing Conte, the only issue is we tell him he can only shop in Aldi but not Waitrose.
Anyway this guy seem more mobile than PEH, so probably an upgrade.

The Traore deal looks gone (and anyway it’s not Conte’s choice or priority as per the reports).

The Diaz deal is in the balance.

Looks likes the strongest link to a signing, so far, this TW is for this player. Even if it’s only for half a season, I hope Barca keep their grubby fingers off the Amrabat pie :shifty:

I’ve reached the point where I’ll be genuinely disappointed if we don’t sign Sofyan Amrabat.

Every fucking window, they get me!

I am just glad that lessons have been learnt and that Levy understands the DNA of the club.
