Be we did break Southampton down. Twice.
Yep. Had the Kane goal counted (I'm still convinced he was onside), we probably go on to win the game by 2 or 3 clear goals.

That's why I'm not too dispirited about today's result. One of those days, as they say.

Also we had several attempts on target so we broke them down enough to create those chances.

The attempts were all pretty much straight at Forster, we didn’t create any guilt edged chances that left us kicking ourselves for missing. 22 attempts on goal and they were all pretty much half chances. The best opportunity fell to Borja? in injury time.

MOTD laughing off two horrendous ref/VAR decisions that cost us two points. Seemed to not care. Very odd.

Watching that chance again where Doherty gets put through by Son, at the time I was so focused on him refusing to use his left to shoot I didn’t even notice Kane unmarked 6 yards out.

Any PL player should be able to roll the ball across 10 yards even with their weaker foot. It was utterly piss poor.

If Gill had that chance it's a goal. Doherty should never have come on as a left wing back. That's on Conte I'm afraid

Still confident top 4 is on. Get in a couple in Jan, Romero comes back, we’ll be looking good. Yesterday was poor undoubtedly but I’m still confident.

That still doesn't take away from my point though. Which was we broke through their backline enough times to have attempts on goal. We put the ball in the net four times yesterday. Three disallowed. One rightly so, two debatable.

Before Conte we couldn't muster a shot on target. Now we're having plenty. I honestly don't have an issue with yesterday looking back at it. Were we at our best? No. But we weren't awful or abysmal as some would make us out to be.

What's amazing to me is how so many people see the same 90 minutes so differently.

It’s still gutting but if we can beat Watford 4pts from 2 away games is ok and will likely be 2pts off Woolwich with 2 games in hand. You aren’t gonna win every game and as they say if you can’t win don’t lose with we nearly did in the last minute. That Broja is a proper player

It's why those 3 cancelled away games may not be such a bad thing at all. If yesterday is anything to go on, I wouldn't be surprised if we struggled away to Brighton and Leicester, if not Burnley as well. Yes there were a few factors as to why our performance level may have unsurprisingly been lower than usual but I do think we have a cohesive problem when performing away from home. Hopefully one we can find some of the answer to through the January window.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit worried about the Watford game but it will be a massive plus if we could put in a positive away performance.

Don't get how we needed 3 CB's on the pitch for all of the 2nd half, especially one who didn't have a clue what to do with it when he got the ball in Southampton's half !

We've seen our last 3 opponents go down to ten men. I can't ever remember seeing anything like that before.
It's a certain amount of frustration behind it I think, certainly the Liverpool and Palace cases where I think they genuinely believed they would do better against us but found us too good and it got to them. The Southampton one was them going in hard trying to knock us off our game was bound to lead to yellow cards and the pen was just poor and born of panic.
I don't think other teams realise how much we've improved, still a way to go yet though.

We should be smashing watford.

Could be a good weekend for us as utd have wolves. Pool vs Chelsea and arsenal have city.

To be honest people said the same of Saints. I just think we should be wary. A London derby, no doubt a very vocal crowd in an old fashioned tight stadium and pitch. An early goal and them having to come onto us would do us wonders.

So the off side goal.

In the eyes of the law is it offside? I think its ridiculous that it is but was the VAR just following the letter of the law?

I keep seeing conflicting reports.

I don't understand how people are staying so calm. It was day light robbery. There isn't anything than can be done after the events but surly VAR and poor referring must be questioned by all PL clubs. Before VAR was introduced, I suggested its being brought in to support the bigger clubs in international, Europe and domestic football. I still believe this and days as yesterday are smoke screens to support poor decisions in the future. There is no sensible reasoning for yesterdays poor decisions.

It needs to be clear and transparent which its not. Wider lines for off side - where have they gone?
