Poor half from us due to our lack of sharpness with the ball and picking up spaces.

Chance now for us to pick it up and go for the kill with them going down to 10.

Dele isn't working on that side because of the way Saints are playing and getting right up to us but that means there is space for someone who is quicker.

I'd switch Dele for Lucas as I think he'd exploit it.

Commentators saying Salisu's first yellow was harsh. No it wasn't. It was for an accumulation of a few niggly fouls.

A penalty cannot cover the cracks for that performance. Now we have the man advantage we may well go on to win but I guarantee you Conte will not be happy with that first half.
Saints away after 2 days rest, its no wonder they're playing well especially after beating West Ham. They have their tails up. But we've not been bad, we've tried to play and almost every time we get a sniff of the ball we're fouled. It can be better but I'm not concerned at all.

It's lucky then that games are played over 90 minutes and not 35 isn't it? I remember Newcastle making a bright start v us. As did Leeds. We made that penalty happen and thankfully Salisu ate it up to get a second yellow.
Did anyone suggest otherwise? Playing awfully for 35 mins isn’t some cunning plan to lull the opposition into a false sense of security however

Aside from the final ball, we’ve played well from a tactical point of view, anytime there’s a bit of quality Southampton have been wide open - can see this being 4 or 5

We need to step it up at half time and not get dragging into their game of fouls.

Just let them keep picking up yellows and at some point get Moura and maybe Bryan on to run at them.
Exactly this. The game is there to be won as long as we don’t get dragged into their games and fouls.

Keep the ball, let them run out of steam or lose their heads again and our quality will win us this game.

That being said we’ve been poor and sloppy and we won’t score again even if they have 10 men unless we sort that out.

Dele needs to do more otherwise Lucas on about 60 mins.

How are they arguing against that first yellow. A week ago Liverpool had a goal allowed for a handball because it was a different phase of play. Makes no sense

The most important stat is that Southampton have 10 men? Really?

Remember that time we played spurs and got beat 1-20 ? Nah mate all that mattered was we had ten men

The hand ball on the yellow card that was mentioned.
Emerson takes his eyes off the ball as the Southampton player runs through him.

Usual slow start compounded by Southampton really going at us hard. Still only damage done was a thunderbolt from JWP so the defence is holding up pretty well.

Son and Dele have struggled with touch but both grew into the game. Same with Harry. We needed that because our gameplan relies on the front 3 to take the ball from defence and at least hold it up / pass it off to oncoming midfield so that lack of touch early was increasing the pressure.

Conte bypasses midfield quite a bit so it was no surprise that Winks and Hojberg were looking lost early. Winks was good in that early part. Pierre was bad.

Winks grew and grew - and took the team on his back once we went one goal down. A series of brilliant aggressive first time passes finally were capitalised on with the pen and red card.

We might want to take Reggie off as they'll target him for a red to get the numbers even. Pity Sess isn't available.

Fuck me, seeing the replay of the first yellow for Salisu, that is embarrassing that Clattenburg even tried arguing that ??‍♂️

Well that’s the negative of Contes system. If you match a 3-4-3 up with ours, stay tight man to man and prevent our players playing in the patterns we’ve worked on, then the football can look pretty turgid. The solution is to have players with enough technical ability to beat their men anyway and create space like that (Ndombele, for instance). We don’t really have any elite technicians on the pitch apart from Kane.

Having said that, Southampton took it way too far and were far too aggressive. Asking for a double yellow tbh.

Poor half so far. I'd get Skipp and Moura on as soon as possible. As others have said get Reggie out the firing line.

oh and Reggie will get sent off. Seems like that kinda day
Yea worried about him.

Only risk to the game going our way really. That and is not being focused enough and assuming that with 11 v 10 the game will just be ours. Doesn’t always work like that.
