"Braced" = speculative bullshit space-filler.

In the same category as "slap a price tag" and "refused to rule out".

Nah he's worth easily twice that!
I would still like him to stay!
I totally agree, he is worth at least £100m to us. But sadly, he no longer wants to be here, and these things never end well keeping them longer. Considering in about 3 days we will get zero* for him, suddenly £40m seems a lot! Want him to stay, but best we sell now and get who we want in. IMO, Eriksen isn't as game-changing as Bale was in his last year or the level Modric was at. He'll be missed, it just won't hurt us as much as some think.

*edit* sorry, after the other TWs close soon after,

In the last year of a contract that would be good money, or he could hang around and go for ziltch.

If his penalties are any indication, then he's checked out and would need a serious reboot if he stays. That could happen if he hasn't been courted by the type of club he expected to switch too. He should want to prove them wrong after committing to us!?!?

Think Erickson is having his ego deflated. He was expecting the likes of RM to bid for him. Turned out the club did not even have one enquiry (as far as we know), never mind a bid. Difficult to see him returning to his best form in the near term. Best to sign Lo Celso and Bruno Fernandez if we can, and let Erickson leave, even for £40M.

How do we let him leave for £40M if no club bids for him?

Is 40 million that low for someone running their contract down?

We seem to massively inflate what we think our players are worth.

Exactly. 40 mil is more than fair. Hazard went for the amount he went for because he's a true rarity, and Chelsea would have said no otherwise.
Eriksen is amazing, but there are players out there available to Madrid who have a similar skillset.

Hazard is a rarity but I have to say so is Eriksen because creative players who operate centrally and control play are hard to find. In fact we have no one who can do that apart from Eriksen. I thought he would have been a better option for Barca instead of Coutinho and it wasn't ridiculous to price him at a similar amount at that time. Given that his form has dipped, he's older and has a year left, £40 million may not be terrible now but I'd have hoped for more.

If Eriksen will not commit today then we sign GLC and BF and let him know if he does not take a transfer he can sit on the best for the season. Whoever the player is we can't afford to be held to ransom and need to take the upper hand

So, would you take 50m from utd or let him go for free, i know what I'd do, i still have images of Berba walking through the hallway with Fergie while we were telling them he's not for sale. Can't stand them.
