couple of mediocre friendly games of football and his heart and head is not in it ? Emotional reasoning at its finest.

It's not just this season though. He hasn't been right for quite some time now.

That's not true, there's been bouts of inconsistency throughout his career but only this season you can say he's mentally checked out.

He hardly set the CL final alight did he? In the biggest game of his career when he was in the ultimate shop window.

Yeah I meant last season - the only season where you can say he was out of sorts.

Anyone who thinks Levy will accept anything less than £50m for Eriksen is living in cloud cuckoo land, Levy is a hard negotiator and will get the best price, if we want to sell him, which at the moment I am not too sure about

@davidmatzdorf

Disagree all you like but others picked up on it too. This was written last April when we were falling away in the title race.

Yes, I agree with most of that article. But we also tend to forget how many last-minute result-changing goals Eriksen scored, even last season, when he was sometimes less influential during normal play.

I still think by far the most important factor in our late-season loss of form was exhaustion, caused by the lack of any rest during summer 2018, followed by a truncated pre-season, compounded by a rash of early-season muscular injuries to most of those players who had not had a summer rest. The players who were not injured had to play every match.

Eriksen often does a good impression of the Duracell Bunny: he runs forever, never appears to get tired and is scarcely ever injured (another important part of his value that tends to get overlooked), but he's a slightly dour, undramatic, downbeat character who doesn't do the usual footballer-fake-enthusiasm cheerleader routine. His personality is atypical for a successful footballer.

I think a lot of what looked like lack of interest was really pure physical and mental exhaustion. He just doesn't show it the way most footballers do.

Not sure it's European clubs we need to worry about, MU seem to be in the box seat.

How do we let him leave for £40M if no club bids for him?
If Levy put out words that he'd let Erickson go for 40M, someone will move for him. Problem is those clubs are not the ones that will provide Erickson "with a new challenge". Worse case is Erickson rejects all offers this window and let his contract run down in the hope that RM will go for him next summer, which could be a possibility since a lot of pundits are predicting Zidane would be sacked in a matter of months.

What's the rationale for CE being picked when his mind isn't right? Find it hard to believe Pochettino would pick him in the preseason friendlies if things had gone awry.

I'm not yet convinced by the Man Utd links, nor that he will leave this window which, I accept is a problem for us if he doesn't sign an extension nor do we sign a replacement.

However, I would be surprised if Levy/Pochettino are willing to take the risk of losing him after the English window closes without replacement or to lose him for free, so I would understand if we have to sell him.

Saying all that - I think he is a superb player who, like many of our players suffered from fatigue last season. If he stayed and signed a new contract, I think he could be brilliant going forward.

There is always an if. But I doubt it. He has upset Poch so he is a gonna.

Could we hold the key to a transfer merry go round?

Eriksen to Man Utd -> Pogba to Real -> Lukaku to Juve -> Dybala to Spurs

Personally if we sold Eriksen it has to be overseas. No way should we go down that feeder club road to United.

Just said on BBC TV news.

"Manchester United have called a halt to talks over the potential signing of Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen because they believe he would prefer a move to Spain.

United are interested in the Denmark international, who has a year left on his Spurs contract and earlier this summer said he was keen on a new challenge.

However, although discussions have taken place, United were left with the impression Eriksen wanted to go to Spain if he left Spurs this summer."

Why would he want to go to UTD. with no CL football? I never felt that was on. It's a pity really although I don't want him to leave he does hold the key to whether we get the players we are (supposedly) linked with. I just have this feeling he is happy to let his contract run out and go were he chooses for free next season.
