As we're supposedly trying to poach Poch off Southampton, a pleasant mid-table club, I'm getting a lot of football fans telling me that Poch would be making a massive mistake to join Spurs, because apparently "we ruin managers". I have even had one telling me that we are "a poisoned chalice" for managers.

But this is complete rubbish!! Just look through our recent managers and what they've gone on to do:

Santini went to manage decent French side Auxerre after resigning from Spurs.

Jol went to manager Hamburg, qualified them for Europe, and joined Ajax, and was one point off winning the Eredivisie with Ajax, notching up a +86 Goal Difference in the process.

Ramos became Real Madrid manager!!!!!!!

Redknapp went back to managing relegation-threatened PL clubs, like before.

AVB is now manager of Zenit, and we arguably fixed his reputation post-Chelsea.

Sherwood's stock has risen incredibly. He wasn't even a manager before he took over and now he is being linked with permanent jobs at PL and Championship clubs. We may have treated him harshly but we have made his managerial career, not broken it like some people may claim.

So if anyone claims that Levy and Tottenham ruin managers, you can laugh at them, because they clearly don't.

I'm sick of our best players leaving for the top clubs. At least we never have our manager poached. Wonder why?

What do you suggest that we do about it?

Unless or until we become THE top club, many of our best players will leave eventually - either for a big fee or on a Bosman.

And if we get a reputation for not allowing players to leave before their contracts are up under any circumstances, then we might find ourselves in the position of not being able to sign players in the first instance or only being able to sign them on relatively short term contracts.

Which means that we wouldn't enjoy our best players for any longer than we do now but, when they do leave, we wouldn't receive the kind of fee that can help to ease the pain, replace the player and grow the club.

Why doesn't my ford fiesta get nicked?

At one point though we were looking at England having redknapp and psg linked with AVB.

You missed my point. Some of our players are rewarded with a career step up. When manager's leave, if they go on to something better, which is rare, they have to rebuild their reputation first.

I did understand your general point. I just chose not to respond to it.

But the way you phrased the first sentence gave the impression that you also were having a moan about players leaving. Fair enough if you weren't.

all depends how you spin it...

Sherwood is unemployed.
AVB went from arguably the best league in the world to Russia.
Redknapp went to the Championship.
Ramos also ended up in Russia, the Real Madrid job was only interim.
BMJ got sacked by Fulham.
Santini went from French national manager, to us, then to an inferior league.
Hoddle went to Wolves then hasn't managed since.
Graham hasn't managed since.

Until one of our managers can replace the core weakness's of our team, they will struggle. We need to allow a manager to kick out a captain if it means a better future!
Reboot a defense! Try new ideas, and be prepared to loose once in a while. Once that happens and they fail... Then I'll judge one of our managers.

Managers always fail because our fans and leader don't give them unequivocal support. Pochettino will fail because our fans and leader wont give him unequivocal support.

I'm sorry if that hurts some but it's the truth. Until we back our manager 100% and through thick and thin this will never happen. Obviously I appreciate it's a two way thing, but as fans that's not down to us to worry about.

When margins are so fine and we are so far behind the big guns, we need every element to go in our favour.

However today's supporters are more worried about getting what they want and getting it yesterday. They are unwilling to accept any slip ups, or alternatives and throw their toys out of the pram when things go slightly sour.

We'll be in this same position in 12 months. So try not to worry about it and perhaps consider how you behave as a fan instead.

Sherwood has only just been fired, give him a chance to get a job. Plus he wasn't even a manager before he got the Spurs job.
AVB's reputation was tarnished from Chelsea. If anything, his time from managing us has confirmed what many feared after the Chelsea sacking.
Redknapp took QPR ro the championship, he didn't take over a championship club.
Ramos had many unimpressive stints at clubs before he came to Spurs.
I don't know how you can blame us for BMJ getting sacked by another club. BMJ before us managed Roda JC and RKC Waalwijk, after us, he managed Hamburger SV, Ajax and Fulham. I would say his career improved.
Santini - If we ruined his career in 13 games, that says more about him then us.
Hoddle lost it whilst at Spurs and continued down that path. You could say that was because of us, but it started whilst in the England job.
Apparently Graham decided to quit management and go into punditry.

Exactly. And there's a LOT of Shane Warnes about.
