Tottenham Hotspur fan calls radio phone-in to discuss Raheem Sterling... just as his wife goes into labour
  • Spurs fan calls talkSPORT as his wife is about to give birth
  • Listener rang radio station outside Colchester Hospital
  • Dad-to-be gives his opinion on the Raheem Sterling situation

A Tottenham Hotspur fan faces a stern telling off from his wife after phoning a sports radio station as he pulled up to the hospital where she was about to give birth.

The Spurs supporter, who gave his name as John, was arriving at Colchester Hospital for the birth of his son but had just enough time to voice his opinions on the situation that could turn into the big transfer saga of the summer.

Sterling looks to be on his way out of Liverpool after turning down a new contract worth £90,000 a week and Chelsea, Arsenal and both Manchester clubs are monitoring the situation closely.

Like football fans up and down the country, dad-to-be John had his say.

'Firstly, I love the show,' he told talkSport presenter Alan Brazil. 'Secondly, I've got to be quick because I've actually just pulled up to the hospital as I'm about to have my first baby.

'I just think a lot of people have forgotten about the fact that Sterling came from QPR or more importantly is a London boy so the time to talk about loyalty was three years ago.

'I just think people are being harsh. He's got to do what's right for him and you know if I had the chance to go and win all the trophies under the sun and not regret something in my career like Steven Gerrard I'd probably do it.'

Radio man Brazil even encouraged John to name his newborn son after the Liverpool winger before the listener had to dash.

'John I'm not going to keep you,' he said. 'You move on pal and if it's a little boy, then Raheem right?'

Sterling has told Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers that he wants to go but the England international has agreed to one more discussion with the club.

The 20-year-old has insisted a move away from Liverpool is not motivated by money; instead perhaps the desire to win trophies.

Sterling featured in Steven Gerrard's final home game on Saturday as Crystal Palace spoiled the captain's farewell party with a convincing 3-1 victory.

Bummer, been listening to Absolute's breakfast show recently, got a bit bored with Mr Brazil, and i miss a gem like this. I switch over at 10am for Colin Murray... well, mostly his guests, as i love a Bunce Tail and Bob Mills Goes Postal
