I'll be honest and say I don't know much about him having never really watched him play, but reading stuff recently has lead me to think he sounds very much like an Arsenal type of signing.

Modric is supposed to be excellent. Sort of like Carrick but in a more attacking role.

Still think a defensive minded midfielder is more of a priority but if we clear out all the tat we should have enough money to get someone in in each position in midfield (which I really think we need).

Defensive midfielder is only a priority if Berba doesn't go.

Ideally we should be trying to source both at the same time!

I still think it's a massive priority. All the top teams have a defensive midfielder.

Carrick/Hargreaves
Flamini/Silva
Makalele/Mikel
Mascherano/Alonso (sort of)

The ideal is two wider players, one defensive minded midfielder and one creative midfielder.

We currently have:

Lennon: A wide player who seems to have lost the ability to go past people and cross it.

Steed: A central player playing out of position (albeit very well)

JJ: A good attacking midfielder...once every five games

Zokora: No comment

Hudd: Too slow

So arguably we need a new player in each midfield position.

I thought eastern European players are cheaper than that. !8 million is a big gamble.

It's the same old rubbish. We will be linked with every player around, but in the long run, these players don't fit the system that Ramos uses. He will go to Arsenal and win nothing.

True, but all those teams also have a creative spark, which we argusably won't have if Berba goes & I still think creating/scoring goals is more important than defence in midfield. But you're right, it's still a soft sport which Spurs are lacking in.

Seems that all the top clubs take the piss for midfielders, Even alonso looked a shit hot holding midfielder while mascherano was tearing up the pitch yesterday. It makes me sad.

18mill is about the right price for him, he is a fantastic player, he could be the next Berbatov signing, however like someone pointed out its prob all junk

Maybe it's time to reactivate Transfer Rumours.

Hold your horses boyo. Believe me this will be a window where we will be massively sick of the transfer rumours by the end of it so we won't be opening it too early.

his like hleb but better

Which may not be saying a great deal, given some of the flak Hleb still gets on Arsenal-Mania from time to time. But I'll leave the judgement to those who regularly watch Croatian football.

Absolutely.

the transfer forum ruins my life, although ITK was quite thin on the ground in January. (Kemsley leaving perhaps??)

SS57 - great find. What's the Epping Forest Guardian's ITK record like?

I've been saying for weeks that if Sven wants to splash some ill-gotten Thai cash our way, the player we're most likely to sell him is not Berba or Lennon but JJ.

I suspect Ramos probably would be prepared to sell Jenas if he could get Modric for around the same price. And, yes, imo the Croatians may be asking for £18 million, but they'll probably have to settle for less.

Well you have to only need to look at the fact they sold Kranjcar for £3.5m and Eduardo, their star striker for £8m to suggest that we could probably get Modric for cheaper

Modric has been far more hyped than either of those two, though, and I'm pretty sure there was a story that the Chavs had put in a £15m-£20m bid not long ago. That's all it takes to convince DZ that EPL clubs are made of money—which, comparatively speaking, we are.
