After watching today's game, I hope this is true. May be alot of money to pay for him, but at least we will finally have a naturally left sided player. Bentley ain't doing the job and needs some time on the bench, as well as some good competition to make him earn his time on the pitch and give him a kick in the ass. Downing, Lennon and Bentley would be 3 good wingers, that could all compete for the 2 spots, as well as Bale and O'hara providing cover if needed.

As said above, we won't be going after a Bellamy type striker if this is true, more of a Carew type player. Where do we find one like that?

Mido/Heskey is what we need.

Ideally, Berbatov, Kanoute would be better but I cannot see that happening, can you?

Kanoute would be just perfect...but never gonna happen, of course.

Maybe Gomis?? Could he do the job, supposed to be the next Drogba.

Hi engcan :) 2 likely targets are crouch & heskey, but I'm sure HR knows a lot more strikers who fit the bill than I do :)

Kanoute was the striker we sold because he only turned up in one game out of 3, less when it was away. A few years later won't have improved that disposition. He may look hot stuff in Spain, but that applies to a great deal of strikers who made little impression in England.

Because he's really going to score us 20 goals between now and May.

Freddie was quality, held the ball up nearly as well as Berbs and like Berbs could take the ball out of the sky and control it on a sixpence.

You seen Bent/Pav & Campbell lately, cant trap a bag of cement between them

Agree Kanoute was the closest thing we've had to Berba'

Great first touch, had the vision to see a pass, and the talent to beat a defender to fashion a chance...

But we all saw the other side, when Freddie didn't seem to fancy it, or seemed to be muscled out of a game......

And if you judge a striker on purely finishing ability, Kanoute was awful in comparison to Pavlyucenko in particular, who has a rare knack of at the very least hitting the target given a mere sniff of a chance.

Can't be judged with the poor help he gets from our midfield and almost always playing on his own upfront.

No use in even trying to rate so far.

He has to put himself about more, win challenges, make it difficult for the opposition.

He is so weak though, it is unreal.

I want Arshavin too, Fazza.
But it seems so unlikely now after reading about 'arry's so-called 'targets'.
Keep up the belief!

If we're willing to spend big money in January (and it could happen) then i think we need to look to sign Roque Santa Cruz. Unfortunately i think we may have tough competition, but if theres any chance we could sign him then he's just what we need up front. A double signing of Cruz and Downing would cost a lot of money, but we'd effectively be spending the Berbatov money on these 2 very talented players. And i think it would be well worth it.
