Looks like the next transfers to be announced will be :

In : Federico Julián Fazio, Centre back from Seville
Out : Michael Dawson, Centre Back to Hull

So one home grown player out - so down to the minimum 8, assuming Fredericks and Fryers are included in the squad and of course they were excluded from the EL squad. Hope someone at the club is counting !

So half of the centre back change formally announced and the incoming Fazio expected today/tomorrow as we seem to have paid the contract termination fee yesterday, allowing the medical to proceed.

The next stage has to include players leaving and assuming MS or another similar player is coming in that means that one or two of 'Paulinho, Sandro, and either Lewis Holtby or Mousa Dembélé need to leave so as to give Poch his 'ideal CM' type who can both pass and gave some steel about them - so the pool of MS (or similar), Étienne Capoue, Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb - and probably one of Dembele or Holtby to add depth and an alternative.

Its not that our current cm's are bad players, its just we have so many of them and too few can pass which is a desired requirement for Poch's CM2.

IMO Poch could live with our AM options, but not our CM options which is why he needs an MS type figure in - and why we need to lose a couple as we have too many already.

MS could turn out to be a last minute deal - in which case expect an alternate CM to be lined up as well.

I would hope if we don't get Morgan in this window we wait rather than switching to an alternate target.

It is so difficult to pick the four CM's, But I like the sound of MS, EC, NB and MD.

We could maybe keep Holtby too if if we use Dembele as back up for one of the more advanced midfielders. I think he'd do really well there actually, more license to roam about and get forward.

I'm assuming we have a Plan B CM already lined up if MS doesn't come.

I think we could get by Capoue, Mason (if fit), Bentaleb with Holtby and Dembele providing an alternative approach to Poch's preferred system but I suspect Poch needs the extra passing/steel player in midfield, hence the need for MS or an alternative.

Several youngsters coming through who might fit too - but a year away from being able to make the breakthrugh that Bentaleb did IMO.

I'd feel a little sorry for MS if that was the case, he seems to really want to be with us but you could well be right.

Milos Veljkovic, is supposedly a deep sitting midfielder isn't he, it seems a real shame to move him from CB as he looked so assured and classy there in preseason but I guess if he's even better in midfield that can only be a good thing.

Be lovely to see him break through.

Paulinho is in there too. Think there's a chance he could come good with the more fluid style under Poch.

I'm not picking on you specifically, but it's wrong to refer to it as a minumum 8, because actually the home grown contingent is a minimum 0.

What you mean to say is that we're now down to a total of 8 home grown players, as well as X u21 players.

What we do have though is a maximum of 17 non home grown players, so we should be keeping an eye on that more than anything else.

At the moment we have:

Non Home Grown (17)
Lloris, Kaboul, Verts, Vlad, Paulinho, Soldado, Adebayor, Lamela, Vorm, Holtby, Dembele, Chadli, Eriksen, Friedal, Capoue, Sandro & Ekotto.

Now assuming that Fazio gets announced shortly, that takes us to 18 non home grown. Not a massive problem right now as we all know that Ekotto won't be named in the 25 man squad. But it means that we have no extra space to sign Non Home Grown players until we ship one out.

This would potentially have a negative impact if we were to have the option to suddenly sign a world class player who was non home grown, like with VDV. We wouldn't have the squad place available.

So in my mind i think we will see at least one of those 17 non home grown players (in asides of Ekotto) being sold this summer, which makes sense with the rumours weve heard regarding Vlad, Paulinho, Sandro, Soldado etc...

re the overseas players - Agreed I made a similar post earler in the thread, we could have 17overseas players only in the squad

Agreed we stil need to lose one or two overseas categised players fot the reason you describe, but also taking the total players in the squad as 26 (before Fazio arrives) less BAE and Ceballos/Fryers/Fredericks (who we could loan out) plus the 4 u21 players who we are using (Kane, Davies, Dier, Bentaleb), that's still 26 players which is quite a large squad to keep everyone happy - without introducing any other u21 players. So that's another reason why I'd expect to see a couple more departures (net) from where we are - so maybe 3 out if MS (or another CM) arrives

!

OP now updated for Federico Fazio joining - we are up to 27 players aged over 21 on the list (plus 5 u21's)

So aside from BAE, its all about one or two out (net of joiners), doubt if we have time for that many more out, except maybe a loan or two for Ceballos/Fryers/Fredericks

OP updated for Ryan Fredericks loan to Middlesborough for 14/15 season.

Decent loan for him - doesn't have enough experience for a PL loan

I have a feeling that Holtby might be jockeying for a move. VdV etc. BAE won't be in either barring some very unlikely happenings. Does that leave room for Schneiderlin and Welbeck? Other than loans out I don't see anything else that we need. Although this is Levy's favourite time of year...

Really happy with how the squad is taking shape. Much more balanced and we have clearly strengthened our defence.

Think we may see Holtby go and Welbeck come in. Although I am a fan of Holtby as a player, if he goes, would rather it be on a permanent and get some cash in.

Loans then for Mason and Fryers and please, please someone take BAE off our hands (for his sake).

If we can bring in Welbeck then fine everyone can stay but if we let Holtby go then we could bring in a non home grown striker. I think we in good shape..

Think the squad is looking a lot better already - particularly strengthening the defence and a gk who plays like Lloris as back up.

The one big issue for me is the cm's - too many cannot pass - and the result is that (as we saw last night v Limassol) that the ball moving forward was slow. Didn't really matter against Limassol as we had too many strengths elsewhere but against a better team we are likely to struggle.

Think MS (or another passer) coming in is essential for me, and keeping Mason ihere as a back up, so with those two plus Capoue and Bentaleb we then have midfield passers.

The other remaining position is the forward, where if Adebayor goes to ACN for 6 weels we are very reliant on a young Harry Kane and a still out of sorts Soldado, so I'm happy with the idea of a wing forward coming in to play on the wing but also to cover cf. But I'm still not that struck on Welbeck - 2 goals in 40 match the season before last. ut I'm struggling for a better alternative

Seeing as we have a net spend of 0 could we see a major signing before the window shuts? Or will all profit be going on the stadium now? Don't think we've had a net spend for a few years now..

Extraordinary events unfolding this evening, which are not allowed in the transfer thread :

1. Taider the midfield player signed by Southampton about 3 weeks ago to partly or wholley replace MS is reported on twitter )make your own mi up on the accuracy to have left Southampton today to join a club in italy.

2. MS is reported o have updated his facebook page

3 It seems aif he MS transfer to Spurs is almost certainly off

4 The Monpellier dm, Benjamin Stambouli is reportedly choosing between Fiorentina and Spurs - Monpellier have apparantly accepted Spurs bid of 5m

Its a wait and see now what happens

Well, just as long as we sign more midfielders, that's what really matters.

If we strengthen without spending much net than I say well done DL and Co. All this we should be spending ex amount a year is unnecessary if we have picked out some rough diamonds. Very Optimistic for the season ahead :)

Think we'll find that 2 or more cm's leave - current whispers sem to be Holtby and Sandro althoug everal other candidates.

Benjamin Stambouli is supposed to be a dm with excellent passing skills and vision, so slightly better specification than MS to fit Poch's requirements for CM's. Only thing lacking from the list is PL experience - hope that with a compatriat in Capoue that he will adjust quickly
