The morning started overcast with a little rain on the way to the tournament, but the sun was out by the time I arrived with the temperature rising. Spurs went into this match knowing who they would meet if they got to the final. With one eye on the final Inglethorpe fielded a strong attacking side. Vigouroux played his second match behind a defence of Ball and Stewart in the middle with McQueen at right back and Barthram on the left. Bentaleb and Gomelt started in the centre of midfield with mcEvoy on the right wing and Ward on the left. Munns supported Zapata-Caicedo up front.
Spurs defended the north end for the first half where both sides started carefully until McEvoy and Ward began to extend the Bremen defence. McEvoy provided the first dangerous cross for Zapata-Caicedo who saw his effort go for a corner. Munns flighted the corner kick to the far post where Stewart headed it back into the danger area. Bentaleb reacted quickly to connect with a waist high volley on the turn to put Spurs in front.
A minute later, good work by Munns and McEvoy on the left resulted in Zwerschke playing the ball back into the path of Zapata-Caicedo. The Spurs striker controlled the ball and picked his spot to put his side two up.
Bremen responded by pushing forward in numbers with Cost firing wide of the far post. A good run down the left by Zwerschke saw Stewart drawn out of the centre to tackle him, he was late and the referee showed him a yellow card. Ihnken fired wide from a corner as Spurs began to look comfortable. McEvoy picked up a clearance from a Bremen corner and broke forward only to be caught when he slowed looking for support instead of taking on the keeper. Frenchs saved from Zapata-Caicedo when he met a cross from Ward.
Bremen made one change for the second half but Spurs continued from the first with McEvoy crossing to Zapata-Caicedo only for the keeper to save his effort. Von Haacke's dummy let in Ihnken through the right channel for an effort that Vigouroux saved for a corner. Fagiryar was booked for a trip on Munns as Spurs broke through the middle. Zapata-Caicedo chased a ball into the right corner and got the better of his marker to play the ball into the near post for Munns. Jack turned the ball back to Gomelt who squared it to the unmarked Ward on his left. Ward had time to take a touch before smashing it into the net for 3-0.
Bremen made a couple of changes in an attempt to get back into the game while Inglethorpe replaced McEvoy with Waller-Lassen. The German subs did add something as Almpanis fired wide and Niederbacher drew a save from Vigouroux soon after coming on.
Pritchard came on for Zapata-Caicedo to work on the left with Ward moving up front. P. Lo Lacono forced Vigouroux into a save before Spurs looked to close out the game by replacing Bentaleb with Smith to sit in the middle covering the back four. He was followed onto the pitch by Gardiner in place of Barthram. Munns was booked for a flying tackle on Reineke before Vigouroux saved Jaschke's free kick diving to his right.
Tottenham look to be favourites to win this tournament as Club America drew with Bremen in their group match while looking comfortable in beating Hannover 2-0 in their semi-final. The Mexicans should not be taken for granted as they have already won a tournament on their travels in Europe so far.

Damn an opportunity missed to allow a depleted team to hold out for the draw, normally I side with the team who wanted penalties rather than the team looking to win before that time when I select my favourites to win
Its a bit of a lotto though I suppose, anything can happen still, good luck to the lads but my money is on a Spurs loss now due to the fact that spurs and penalties don't mix and we had the extra man for so long

I think that the games are two 25 minute halves, which would mean that we were only a man up for four minutes.

50 minute game so extra man for only a couple of minutes.
But you are right, Spurs seemed to be creating more tyhan the Mexicains before that - and we are not always good with pens
We missed the second pen but scored 4, America missed the 5th, then both sides missed a couple but then final score 5-3 to Club Amercioa.
Close for Spurs but not close enough !
Wel done to the lads though

The result isn't important. I've not seen much of this group as most of them are younger even than the ones who played in the nextgen (a couple of names are the same like Gomelt, who seemed to play every game in this tournament). It's a pretty good sign that at whichever age group our side is capable of getting good results and by the sound of what Inglethorpe was saying, also playing good football.

It's a shame obviously but you could just about argue getting that far and losing is equally as good for long term player development. It'll certainly keep them hungry for the next tournament
They seem like a young bunch of players, they're competitive wherever they go. It's a very promising sign for all of them and the club in general.

Good effort by the youngsters, credit where it's due! Some of these have an exciting future ahead of them. Bentalab (sp?) in particular has impressed, and he's even trained with the first team (I think he's been in photos I've seen of training anyway?) which isn't bad at the age of 15. Should have a huge future ahead of him.
