gomes rib broken, heavy strapping, pain killer injections. needed help in tunnel at f/t

Oh well, at least we have Cesar as cover. He has played in a CL final for Madrid so hopefully he will be good.

Not really surprised, he comes for everything whether he has any chance of getting there or not. I like him as a keeper, but he needs to cut that out otherwise teams will play for it.

For all those who have been in full support of Modric playing in a free role behind the striker, like myself, can all feel vindicated. The fact that Allen ,or whoever picked the team today, decided to play him there just shows some of the inept team decisions that have been made recently. This boy is unbelievable and the way we were going we were going to lose him now we can build this side round him.

He should definately play up there, but with another striker as well. Still needs more options up top to play to and to stretch the defence more. But one step at a time.

I was sitting and looking at the 1-0 at the top of the screen for a good 30 seconds in the first half and just breathing it in! It was so good to see a positive scoreline for a change.

MOTD2 will be getting a few viewers back tonight methinks, I haven't watched that in ages!

The problem is, Modric can't play a free role in a 4-4-2 unless we get someone who can not only protect the back four, but give decent distribution.

Thought Corluka was more than decent too at centre back. Always calm on the ball (unlike a certain Mr Dawson) and very good passing ability.

Feels fucking good to have a victory & a better feeling about the club. Things are probably much more simple than they seem.

Sanchez will be in for the Ar5en1 game, Jansson probably on the bench, Octopus having his tenticles in plaster.

Not sure if anyone thought the same but this can be the beginning of a AC Milan like team where we have a defensive playmaker like Thudd in the mould of Pirlo and an attacking midfielder who pulls the strings and scores the crackers like Modric can in the mould of Kaka. What do you guys think?

That's a nice thought. I still think the Hudd has a lot to add to his game, but he can certainly play that Pirlo/Carrick role with the attributes he has. I still think most of all we need an enforcer in the middle as Milan do in Gattuso.

I only heard the game on the radio in the car, but by the sounds of it things were very positive and we played a lot of good stuff. It's a fairly damning indictment of Ramos because Redknapp didn't change much in terms of the starting line up and formation. I think he just went back to basics and (thank god) made Modric the heartbeat and played people in their natural positions!

Also we really need to look to develop Gio. Lennon is a great sub, but he has shown frequently he lacks the technical ability to be a threat on goal or unlock defenses. We need that from our left flank since we don't have pace down the right.

A win at last... but still bottom for the mo.

I'd feel a lot better if we didn't have to play Arsenal & Liverpool in the next 6 days.
Two points from those games would make me happy, given the circumstances

He can mate. Played that way today. Just tucked in. Won't be 4/4/2, but 4/4/1/1

If we're going to play a 4-4-1-1 though we need more from our left flank in attack than Jamie O'hara, as I mentioned.

After all the talk and debate about the politics in the club isn't it great to see us doing something on the pitch again?

Definitely - we're back to football & not much else. Feels great. A big weight off the club.

What we liked about Jol's time in charge was Jol, Hughton & Wandering Hans being mates on the touchline; I think we'll see something like that with Harry, Kevin & whoever else they bring in. I think it inspires the fans & players.

Replace JJ with Hudd and you have what I'd like to see. Unless we plan on playing on the counter attack, then I'd like to see Bent replace Pavs. Modric will have a lot of opportunities to release Bent and Gio into space would be my hope. Pavs doesn't do much with space in terms of getting behind people.
