I'd like to see Boateng and Jenas play together more in the midfield. I'd like Boateng to play more of the holding role. Boateng I think can break up play, but also play some good passes and is pretty good on the ball.

well said Dan H :)

but trust me I'll defend JJ on these boards week in week out - the stick he gets from some (I'm not talking about this current thread where the criticisms have been temperate by and large) is ridiculous -

Jol knew it - Ramos knows it - I and a lot of Spurs fans know it - he's our best mid player and until he gets that credit from at least the vast majority of fans (or until the situation changes) I'll be defending him on here.

Incidentally re the assists from free kicks compared to Zokora - why does JJ take them and not Zoko - it's easy really - cos JJ is better than him at them - it's one of the many superiorities JJ has over Zoko - this not knock DZ - but JJ is a better mid than him and my bet is if we do get buy in a top quality mid it'll be Zokora making way for the most part not JJ

I would love to see Jj and Boetang in CM for us, but i dont think we would need the 'one holding' 'one attacking' as it looks like both can do ether job. Instead (and it may take a bit of time) get them working together and between them one will break and one hold, meaning who ever we play they wont know who they have to watch on breaks.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Either Zok or JJ with Boateng represents a more balanced midfield than Zok and JJ together.

no no no bg :) zoko and boateng would not work well at all - JJ is better than either of them :)

what chrissi and Keane said wasn't what you were thinking - they said boateng and JJ would be better than Zoko and JJ - they didn't mention replacing JJ iwth Zoko

I call it constructive criticism. Anyway, I'm not having a go at JJ specifically but just pointing at the CM partnership that complements their strengths and weaknesses to give us a more balance play in the center.

cheers 57 - now I know such stats can be misleading and I leave their analysis to Joey - who incidentally has pointed out time and time again in great detail on here why JJ is a better mid player than Zokora

but anyway JJ 54 passes 85% accuracy - Zoko 35 passes 80% accurracy -

as I said I'm not having a go at Zoko - he did fine today - but he isn't and in my opinion never will be (injuries excepted) be a better mid than JJ

Phew............ It's never easy at the Lane currently, but we deserved the three points, citeh offered very little going forward and Robbos gloves were kept clean. kaboul played it simple today no messing about and looked better for it, our two standout players today were Steed and Berbs. Currently Steed is our player of the season imo, deserves much credit.

Boateng looked tidy when he came on and definately likes to get stuck in, I'd try him beside JJ in the centre of midfield, playing the deeper position, all in all very happy, today was not about performance, just points, hopefully a turning point in the season.

I agree.
This would surely be a more balanced midfield pairing and thus harder to predict for the opponent.
I also want to add that KPB is strong in the air, in contrast to our other cm's he wins most of the balls in the air.

@DCBOY:
How can you know that Zokora and Boateng wouldn't work well?
While I think that Boateng and JJ would be better, there is no real evidence that Boateng and Zokora couldn't play well together.

And why do you always try to point out that Jenas is better than Zokora?
I think everybody (should) know(s) that and it isn't really the most important matter.

I did say that I thought Zokora was less involved today than in any game this season. He was very quiet and his passing was off.

hi Qwert of course I don't know - it's my opinion that Baoteng and JJ would be better - I've been following Spurs nearly 50 years now and I have plenty of opinions :)

what I base my opinion on - is basically JJ is a better mid than Zoko - and would complemt Boateng better than Zoko

As far as this board goes Joey tends to provide far more in depth tactical analyses than me - and I'm happy to say he has a better grasp of modern tactics than I do

But my long experience enables me to see the bigger picture often - plus as I say don't take my or Joey's word for it - see what Jol and Ramos think - JJ every time

oh and see what Babylon has to say - I'll back that up by saying in the first few minutes I was cringing as Zokora misplaced pass after pass - and turned a nervous opening into nail biter time

however I stress unlike the JJ attackers - I'm not here to knock DZ who had a decent game - just point outJJ's better than any of of our other mids.

hi DC_Boy ;)

I can wholeheartly and totally agree with this post, JJ is better than Zoko and would probably compliment Boateng better - or lets say Boateng would compliment Jenas better since he is our first cm right now(although i think that could change soon).

I only took slight offence :)razz:) in the sentence:
zoko and boateng would not work well at all

Because we simply don't know this yet and i think that KPB could play with JJ and with Zoko.

But i also want to mention that i don't rate Zokora highly so don't mistake me for a Zoko-fanboy.

Malbranque was immense today.

Great work rate, always full of running - proper box to box stuff. So strong on the ball, never got pushed off it and capped it with a great piece of skill to set up the winner.

He's finally getting back to the standard he achieved at Fulham that convinced us to splash out. He's giving us some balance on the left and is actually starting to look comfortable there. On current form he's probably edging out Joe Cole; who is probably the benchmark for best right footed left mid in the prem.

:) Q - ok I'll withdraw the 'Zoko & Boateng wouldn't work well' line

but I have to say they probably wouldn't :)
