Nope, he will never be any better than he currently is.

At his best, Newcastle is just about his level.

This is as good as your posts get, you will never be any better than you currently are.

At best, Dover Athletic is about your level.

I'm generally wary of attributing too much importance to formations in a fluid game, but I think the emphasis on a 4-2-3-1 setup for most of today's match made a considerable difference to our competitiveness in midfield. Ndombele had an end-product issue today - just bad passes and hesitation, mainly - but he was playing far enough back to link the double pivot to the attack. It would be good to see this again and for Nuno to work out whether Ndombele or Lo Celso suits it better. Anyone can see that 4-3-3 with only one creative player hasn't been working.

However, another reason we were more in control of midfield, after Villa's first-15-minutes press eased off, was that Villa were extremely sloppy. They gave the ball away in midfield countless times: putting it into touch or being caught in possession by Højbjerg or Skipp. They didn't look right today at all and their reliance on too-plentiful corners and long throws surprised me. Fortunately, we defended our box very well under considerable pressure, during the two 10-minute periods when we were pressed back. The defence had good concentration and there were few gaps.

Except for the early stages of each half, we had more possession, better territory and more chances. And we had Son. The game could easily have ended 4-1 and it wouldn't have been unjust.

I can't undertand Ndombele's positioning. So often he was wide or across a front 3.

He needs to be in the middle. In front of the pivot and, more importantly, deeper than the front 3. A 4-2-1-3 for example. He's just wasted otherwise.
He's still very much a conundrum for me - he does this nobody else can do but goes missing for large periods when everything should be going through him. No idea if this is tactical, positional or related to fitness but it needs sorting if we are going to genuinely progress.

Kane was fine. He's still capable of touches and invention that wouldn't occur to others. He created what would have been a goal of season contender had Celso finished it.
I was right behind Lo Celso when the ball made its way to him. The keeper left so much room for him the find the far corner, it was harder to miss it. Poor finish. It would have been a beautiful goal otherwise.

It was like a work of art that Celso felt too much pressure to finish off.

Honestly, there was some champagne football being played in that last 20 mins.

I think he was trying to find Kane at the back post. It would have made much more sense for him to have gone for the near post otherwise.

Positives

Back 4 - I thought defensively we were strong whilst also Royal and Regulion pushing forward at times. Romero a big plus in there...he attacks the ball and is aggressive, dier to be fair had a solid game also.

Skipp played his usual game, from where I was it seemed a harsh booking and I think he backed away from a few tackles after at the risk of getting a red.

Hojberg I thought had one of his better games.

Ndomebele - whilst I think he is better than Dele in that position, it's not his position, he is a number CM but unfortunately can't be trusted in there - he has the ability - but I honestly think we should move him on if possible - Lo Celso def needs a run of games in that position to see how he does.

Moura - can't fault his work rate but didn't think he was at his best today. - would like to see Gill get a chance.

Kane - not disappointed, just not playing to the high standards he has set previously - if we get a good offer we have to let him go - if we can get a quick forward - our front 3 could cause a lot if problems - as well as add a quality CM.

Son - MOM - different class, positive, always running forward and looked dangerous on the ball

Nuno - better team selection - relieved he didn't bring on Dele.

Not a magnificent performance but with our confidence low I'd take that every day of the week - something to build on and important to get the win before international break.

Great to see, showed me we actually do have some mental strength in the team. So pleased with the whole team but just wished we showed this performance against the scum last week.
@Moorechild you disagree i be interested with your point of view? You must of been pleased with spurs recent performances and not pleased with the win today?

Skipped booking was awful. It was an excellent tackle

Just rewatched it back. He gets the man first clearly from behind and doesn’t actually touch the ball. It was a bad tackle.
It was but Villa had three or four tackles that were just as bad that went unpunished. The lack of consistency from the referee was frustrating, especially given that the player who was singled out has also had a couple of very dubious decisions go against him already this season and is now facing a ban.
