No point keeping Skipp on in the second half if Brentford are going to be camped in deep. Yes Deki has been poor, but for me would move him into the 8 role and bring Johnson on for Skipp and tell him to hold the width. Will open Brentford up massively.
I’d certainly be happier with that.

Games like this where teams have worked us out and have the quality to hit us on the counter/from set pieces is where we'll really see if Ange is able to translate his success in lesser leagues to the PL.

Quality is obviously relative but there are new challenges facing him this season in that every single PL team has quality all over the pitch, and even the lowliest clubs have one or two top players particularly in forward positions, offering more threat than he's faced before outside the CL (where his teams played well but consistently lost).

Not a criticism, an observation of how he handles this in the long term. Next season, we will need a squad shaped more towards dealing with games like this.
This is a really fair and balanced viewpoint.

I think its exactly whats going on.

Ange had this period at Celtic and throughout his career but was able to work through it. I think he hasnt had it until recently here because players were not available to experience them

Honestly, all ange should do is show the smug celebration from maupay and toney on repeat this half time. That should be motivation enough to rile our boys up to either score a few, or get a few red cards. 50/50 chance of us winning it, or throwing it away… i like those odds because right now we have 0 chance if it stays like this.

Jesus wept. That was pretty dire. A lot have said it here, teams have sussed us. And I know this is neither here nor there, but I've seen most games this season in the stadium and the box, and Ange just stands there hands in pocket. He surely can see where we are failing. Say something, light a fire under them, throw your arms in the air or something. Fuck me. Ah well, at least I got into the 1882 Bar.

Even when Son returns we still need a quality striker, whether this be someone who’s established or a talented youngster we need someone who has at least one attribute that he excels at. Whether this be raw pace, holding the ball up, instinctive etc… Richarlison is Jonny average at best and Son is best of the left of the front 3

It's not been iffy it's been non existent.
Just imagine if someone like Toney was playing there.
I'm not saying I want Toney I'm saying we need someone with a centre forwards ability to do that.

Some on here have said he is playing well...

Need to get a couple of shots away, if even they're long range. Give them something else to think about other than clogging up the box.
Yep. Deflections bring goals, second chances, corners. Just set and strike.

Brentford's behaviour doesn't surprise me. Proper muggy team. So muggy that it wouldn't surprise me if Frank scouts the refs to know which ones will let them ramp up the shithousery.

If our players are thinking about maupay. Then they aren't thinking about the game. Which is the point.

It's really simple day 1 of school stuff. Ignore the little cock womble and play football.

Fair play to Brentford they’ve somehow got numbers in defence and in attack.

We clearly need to move the ball more quickly and be more decisive with what we are doing but they are making it tough.

Hopefully Ange instructs the players to take turns kicking Maupay up in the air, one after another until we get down to Vic! 😂😂

I love Ange and his style of play but sometimes over the last however many years I do wish we had more strikers on our books so we could occasionally play 2 up front. Against 5 at the back a 4-3-3 can often struggle as it’s 5vs3 at the back and more importantly 3 CB’s vs one often isolated striker.

We don’t have many CM’s who carry the ball tonight and who shoot from distance and our wingers are both inverted so it completely plays into Brentford’s hands.

We either need to have much more width and/or play 2 strikers to better occupy their 3 CB’s

I remember Poch did this away at Watford one time when they played 5atb he switched to us playing 2 strikers and it worked a treat.

It’s kind of basic tactics really.
4-3-3 outnumbers 4-4-2
5-3-2/5-4-1 can isolate a 4-5-1/4-3-3
3-5-2/4-4-2 can be best against a 5-3-2 and/or if 4-3-3 then fullbacks need to overlap or the wingers need to go on the outside if the fullbacks tuck in but as our wingers are both inverted it’s so easy for them, they put tons of bodies behind the ball and we end up having Porro or Maddison cross to Richarlison who is being marked by 3 CB’s.

Something has to change otherwise it’ll be more of the same unfortunately.

We've been awful. But Brentford are clearly doing what many teams have done after our great start: get overly physical and wind us the fuck up. And it works. Not helped by the ref, but our attitude needs to be better. Can't let these tactics work against every time.

Jhonson does not dare run at a defender when he has 40 meters behind him, what will he do when Brentford is 10 inside the 16 yard box.
Gil is better suited for games like this
He’s right footed mate so put him
On the right and he will stretch out their back 5 which will open up spaces whereas Kulu cuts inside so it just gets congested.

Not good enough. Too slow in the build up. Trying to pass our way through the low block.

Need to do more.

His link up play and approach has been good.

Crossing not so much
He’s been very frustrating, which is more than I can say about Kulu who has been incredibly poor. Werner does a lot of things right then fluffs it at the end. Hopefully it’s just a case of getting one thing right then he will start getting everything right.
