this game showed that so much of what is wrong with the team is down to players and ownership not the manager.
the pathetic investment in the first team squad and its consequence is evident for all bar the BSofL.
Levy needs to hire a DofF with real power and authority and take a back seat himself.
I put it fairly and squarely at the feet of the players. The team we had out there, should have beaten this Chelsea team. It wasn't about investment, the players need a kick up the arse. They have shown that they can play incredible football, but that's always been our problem, consistency. There is no excuse for the performance yesterday, against United and Wolves. These are highly paid professionals, they are not children. At the money they get paid, they should be at the very least, giving 100% every game.

Sorry mate, they were trying they’re just not good enough. How many of our players get in Chelsea team? Mabye Toby,Son(Willian and Mount have been very effective so also arguable) and Kane(abraham has scored more goals this season so even that is arguable)... that says it all. @DCSPUR is spot on that it’s primarily the fault of DL & the recruitment team for lack of investment and poor recruiting and squad management over the last 2-3 years.

RB - didn’t replace walker Sufficiently with trippier or aurier
LB - didn’t manage to sell rose or bring in a new fresh replacement
CDM- haven’t replaced peak wanyama or managed to offload a now crocked wanyama
CM - only just replaced dembele with ndombele who isn’t fit all year
AM - have let eriskens contract run down and no clear plan to replace him. No other good investment into ready to go quality AM’s to compete with son. Lucas isn’t up to it, nkoudou and njie were awful, sessengon and Clarke are for the future
ST - no back up to kane since llorente left.

awful squad management.

That game was one of the worst experiences I've had as a Tottenham fan and I've been following Spurs since I first came here in the late seventies. A humiliating loss against a team we are more than capable of beating. Our club associated with vile bigotry and prejudice while playing against a club whose fans regularly, in large numbers, chant some of the most repugnant anti-semitic bile I've ever heard in public. Not a good day for Tottenham.

As for the game we were undone by three terrible individual errors, two of them completely inexplicable and avoidable. The penalty and the red card came out of nothing. While Chelsea had more possession they had few real chances ( l stopped watching after the red card). With eleven men I think we would have put them under real pressure in the last thirty minutes. With the quality we had on the bench and Jose's ability to make good tactical changes in the heat of the moment we should have won this game. Unfortunately we were undone by a lack of composure and discipline by two players.

I am sure Mourinho can mould this team into a team capable of winning things. But his tactics require discipline, composure and intelligence. It will be good have Lloris back. Aurier is a continuing cause for concern. The midfield of Sissoko and Dier has its limitations but is reasonably solid defensively. Perhaps a fitter Dier with Ndombele, or with Winks will allow for a better transition from defence to attack through the midfield (rather than long balls from the back four). Son's weakness defensively may be a problem in successfully playing a game which requires long-spells of disciplined defending. Perhaps Sessegnon may be more suited if we continue to play this way but he lack experience.

An awful and sobering day for Tottenham fans.

You think that is one of the worst experiences as a Tottenham fan - lol, lol, lol.

A day later and honestly, looking back, while still infuriating, it should have been completely expected. We’ve seen how poor and past it this squad is. We have no midfield. We have a poor defense that will only get worse until Toby, Serge and Jan are replaced. We have a world class striker who hasnt given a shit for a few years now. We cant always rely on Lucas, Dele and Son. Whose to blame? Well for one thing, Daniel Levy has failed spectacularly. Worst part is, this wont get better for a bit as Levy outright refuses to spend on the massive overhaul required.

mate - they are a stale group, mentally and physically...desperately need to freshen up with some out and some in (and integration of summer purchases)

I was thinking we'd done well to get to half time at 1-0 down after the run around we got in that first half and was thinking Mourinho would change things in the second which he did and it was better, until the red card, but then with all the time in the world in no danger whatsoever Gazzaniga went full fucking Kung Fu panda and lost us the game. What the fuck was that, he obviously panicked and completely lost it. I'm not saying at 1-0 we'd have come back and won but the second half would definitely have been different instead of a dead rubber, we have to get Hugo back or another option soon. All I can say is we can all see the problems so I'm sure the manager can.

Agreed... Going in 1-0 down at half time would’ve been retrievable with a few tweaks (Eriksen on etc), but that ridiculous penalty absolutely flattened us.
However, we still looked better at the start of the second half and a draw may have been possible until Son’s incredible moment of madness killed us off... These 2 events are the main things that lost us the game IMO, any team in the world would’ve found it extremely difficult to come back from that.
Have to also mention Rudiger who seems like a proper little p****... First Shamelessly feigning injury to get another player sent off then claiming he was racially abused. I say ‘claiming’ as so far (using CCTV and lip readers) nobody (at one of the most high tech stadiums in the world) has been able to find any conclusive evidence to back up his claim, (did it really happen?)... All rather odd I’d say!

Deary me. The thing is, Alli in those positions is not good enough. We need a GLC or someone similar in that role.

WTF is Sissoko doing.

Dier and Sissoko, one of the worst CM partnerships I have ever seen.
Dier & Siss are not a partnership, a partnership requires both parties to be at the very least to be on the same wavelength. These two do nothing. An on-field partnership is all about protecting, sharing and easing the pressure on the defence, these guys do not do that in any form.

To think we peaked a while ago and won nothing, now we need a rebuild. Its a lifetime since we were a great team, our only modern day achievement is to give football the word spursy, now in the urban dictionary. Bring on 2020 its going to get better you know.

No. I said it WAS one of MY worst experiences as a Tottenham fan.

With regard to football I am actually rather hopeful that Mourinho can do something with this squad. It went rather wrong on Sunday against a club I dislike for many reasons.

The club has officially announced the person responsible for throwing the paper cup at their keeper has been banned.
Good fucking job, good riddance.

I do agree you, I'm not saying we don't need to freshen up. But we have enough quality that have put in excellent performances since Jose arrived that yesterdays shambles, should not have happened. These are highly paid professionals, they know their job, what they need to do and what's needed.

Think teams who watched our games against Bayern and Chelscum would realize as long as we play this tactic of LB joining a back 3 and RB overlap on thr right side during attack would know that the RB is our weakness

Just double up on RB and attack down his flank, it will pull a CM out to cover him as Moura does not give much help to his RB
That will leave a hole in the middle of the part they can steamroll through

Bayern did it to KWP , Chelsea did it to Aurier.

We lack a on the field orchesrator who can organize the team when our tactics get countered. I am not sure if we play Foyth as RB it will be much better . He would still be double up on and CM will need to cover leaving Dier alone int he middle

Strange thing in the Chelscum game, why was Sanchez doing the long hollywood passes and not Toby? Toby is normally so much more accurate wit his long passes

Only posting now. Went out and got absolutely smashed after that on Sunday.

That was an absolute shambolic performance. I just don't get it. Had the whole week to prepare, London Derby, lampards comments, night game under the lights, fixture of the weekend before Christmas...

And we turn in that performance. Yes that midfield isn't good enough but even more than that was a complete lack of desire. Inexplicable.

Can stomach bad results but a complete lack of effort for a game of this stature is completely unacceptable.

Racism was disgusting.

It’s actually what you’re supposed to do as a fullback, show them inside so they run into traffic instead of isolating you one on one.

His problem was that he was too slow out to harass him and he wasn’t backed up by the team pushing up. He’s the fullback pushing out and should have had one of the midfielders following to plug the space Willian in pushed into. Instead our lot remained stuck in the 6 yard box and didn’t back him. Watch the contrast with Chelsea when we got players wide, we had constant harassment whenever we got funnelled inside. That was a team backing each other up, intelligently working to fill gaps and squeeze us into tight spots with no outball.

We can do this, we know we can as we used to be the best at this, but all the training, drilling and previous experience just dribbled out of their ears.

Having said all that, I’m not going to take anything away from Chelsea here, they did everything we used to. I don’t care that they’ve been in a bad run, they played very well today and totally took us out of our game from minute 1.
Nah as a fullback your main job is to force the attackers to use their weak foot. Imagine telling a defender to let Messi cut in from the left and in to the center. That's just asking for trouble.

Jose just found out a good deal more about some of the characters and 'quality' in this squad....

Gazzaniga is a fool. As is Aurier. Both simply not good enough to play for a team aiming for Top 4 in the Premier League.

Rose and Vertonghen are past it. Time to dispose of both ASAP.

Dier appears incapable of finding his old form.... Not sure whether it's time to give up on him completely, or is there any possibility that he could improve in a different role? (Remember his first game for the club when he scored twice from right back....)

Eriksen... we've all said it many times before... If he doesn't want to play for the club then don't give him the shirt. Same for any player.

Either way, without reinforcements in January, this team are going to struggle to finish in the Top 6. It's a long shopping list and not sure whether we can obtain the necessary players by the start of next season under the current transfer regime.
  • Defensive Midfielder (it's been a major need for some time)
  • Play-making 10 (of the same quality as the 'old' Eriksen)
  • Right back
  • Goalkeeper (even when Lloris returns, it's obvious that he isn't the player/leader he once was)
We will almost certainly will need to get rid of some, if not all, of the deadwood first. Problem is that the value of those players is falling significantly with every game that passes.

I live in hope.
Why do you think we bought Lo Celso for huh?
