This period is about getting points wherever we can get them until we get injuries/suspensions back and reinforcements in next month

Anything else is a bonus

We had our weakest players in the squad take up half the team 2nd half so did well to see it through. 3 straight wins going into Christmas so will take that.

Honestly blows my mind how some love to really get negative about the team and not consider the situation we are in.

Not only is our backline makeshift and our CM pairing poor on quality, some of them are playing in positions or roles they are unable to.

Hojbjerg, Skipp, Dier and Davies is genuinely relegation standard middle four.

Then you have a RB playing LB.

And people get angry cause can't control a game??

Fucking hell

This. Football fans a such fucking idiots sometimes. Everton are in top top form and belief. This was a HUGE win in difficult circumstances.
Some people will moan - it's their perogative but at the end of the day, football is like that sometimes. If you want straightforward victories every week, stick to FIFA manager or whatever it's called.

never wanna see that holy quartet of dier Davies skip and hobbie playing together... so terrible on the ball.
Don't wanna see dier and hojbjerg again. We instantly look worse when they both come on. Easily upgraded in Jan and we'll be miles better for it.

We’ve got half a team out including most of the spine of our team. In that context results are all that matter. Get as many fortuitous victories between now and the start of Feb as we can and then expect to rediscover some form in our performances when we’ve got something resembling our strongest XI available.
It's as simple as this.

Its not time to get all analytical about the team, structure or whatever.

Its simply about getting through these weeks and hoping we ars in a good situation by February.

The HUGE positive here is we have given ourselves a nice little cushion between ourselves and Newcastle/United etc.

We are coping.

This team will only fly when we get a familiar 11 in with key players in key positions being available.

Anyone trying to understand why we struggle in second half or in certain situations is wasting their time.

It is simply down to personnel

I think that’s a bit harsh. Take Royal, for example: it’s very hard to play left-back when you’re right-footed because you naturally want to take the ball on the inside, and that’s much easier for the opposition to press; Royal almost has to play with the same awareness and control as a central midfielder, which obviously isn’t his forte. Udogie would find it hard playing right-back. I actually think it makes more sense to play Porro at LB when Udogie is unavailable as he’s very good on the ball, and play Royal at RB. Davies, meanwhile, is playing as LCB when he’s a LB. I think he’s doing very well considering.

it’s also harder for the squad players to play well when they’re playing with other squad players who are playing out of position and are low on confidence and match fitness.
Totally agree, they are doing as well as they can…..but the argument that our quality drops is evidenced by how much we struggle.

Massively let off the hook in this game. Clear as day if we stick with the style we play, we cannot have that many players with technical deficiencies out there at the same time. Lot's of endeavour and hard work by Skipp but he isn't up to it on a technical level to play this system. Similarly on the left hand side of defence, Davies and Royal was a hard watch because neither is suited to playing the intricate playing out the back style although to be somewhat fair to Royal he was playing out of position.

Felt like Everton worked who the weak links were after 30 odd mins and started targeting them and disrupting the way we play with the rot settling in elsewhere in the team to.

Totally agree. He should have started Maddison, Bissouma, Bentancur, Van der Ven and Udogie. He shouldn't have taken Romero off either.

That was a good result under the circumstances against a team who had won 4 in a row. We were lucky, but we were due some luck so let's take it. There's not much anyone can do until our core players get back and/or the window opens so we may as well get behind the players we have.

Alas I had Effin UCuckoo on my stream chatting shit from the off - he hates us.
After about 10 mins (wasn’t counting) he exclaimed it was the first time Spurs got in the Everton half - obviously forgetting Sarr had a shot at goal on about 28 seconds!

The only positive thing about that game was the result. We can count ourselves very fortunate to come away with 3 points but having said that we got the 3 points with a much depleted side.
True, but we've had our fair share the other way round

You have four players there Hojbjerg, Dier, Skipp, Davies.

All rigid in their play.
Not agile.
Can't receive under pressure with back to goal.
Struggle with creating passing lanes and playing through.
Crap at 1v1s.
Not firm crisp passers.

And people expect to see a level of control?

Even Sarr isnt a control type player, he is someone who carries and covers ground qucikly.

So we had little balance there.

Everton on the other hand had some balance in CB and midfield.

They dominated because of this.

It really isn't anything groundbreaking

What about Richarlison who was stong on the ball and showed excellent movement?

Or Deki who just never stops?

Or Johnson who showed good decision making at times.

Cundy moaning about us going on about our injuries and that we should be more 'balanced' with our style. I guess that it's easier to cope when you are a Chelsea fan with 500 players to choose from.
