look at the figures from south africa 1.7% hospital admissions for omicron 25% from the last delta wave. Mass hysteria caused by the media. Omicron isnt doom its the end of covid as a pandemic and the start of being endemic like the flu and common cold its a natural vaccine. Im boosted everyone should be but lockdowns etc are not the answer here life has to continue. 1 omicron death in the UK a pensioner who was unvaccinated. if Delta was growing exponentially we should worry but people will look back on omicron as the start of the end of the problem. The South African medical agencies that discovered Omicron and are dealing with it for the longest period of time are utterly bewlidered by the european mass hyesteria and panic about it.
Not enough is yet known about Omicron and until it is the type of complacency shown above is foolhardy. The latest research in this country suggests it is as dangerous as Delta and with the huge number of infections it is likely hospital admissions will be high. These admissions could overwhelm the NHS and the economy will be put under pressure with the people off work. Lockdowns can buy us time until we know more. Sadly Boris Johnson continues to play Russian roulette with the health of the British population. Comparisons with South Africa can be misleading. The population is younger and test results should be taken with a pinch of salt. I know somebody who has not tested because of the long drive to the test centre.

Didn’t Salah test positive last season whilst away with Egypt? If so then that means he won’t have tested positive again doesnt it?

If you want to talk about the consequences of Covid on upcoming games etc, that's fine but once this thread turns into a discussion about the viurus itself, i'll lock it and ban the perps hard because enough is enough now. We're not interested in conspiracy theories, your rants on Omicron and how it's being dealt with or any of that stuff. Not in here. We provide a place for that.

We've already had far too many self appointed experts spreading bollocks in the last couple of match threads so please keep it to the football and if you must, head over to the Covid thread to post the other, more serious stuff.

I wonder when we'll play a football match again
I am wondering when I'll get to see a game again. Haven't been to a game since 2019. I wouldn't mind but I usually go with my Dad and he point blank refuses at the moment.

But I have a feeling you'll be right. But it will be Liverpool calling it off and everyone will have a chuckle at Klopp.

They should have just postponed everything from last Wednesday onwards. That would have been 10 days before Boxing Day and gives everyone a chance to get it sorted out. Then add a week or two onto the end of the season.

Well, we have all our players or the majority of them so the only way it will be called off is if Liverscum get any more cases. I think they had three and they played Newcastle. As we know it will most likely be a last minute decision if called off.

It’s not just about the players though, the mayor has just declared a ‘major incident’ in London due to the massive spike in cases, is it really wise to put 60k people together in 1 place shouting and singing?

If it goes ahead, fair play to anyone going...cos I’m fucking not.

When the Premier League show some nads and closes it down for the appropriate amount of time. It's annoying because it seems so inevitable.
I guess that they're feeling caught between a rock and a very hard place over FIFA's apparently immovable schedule for the Qatar World Cup.

Thats a really poor number imo.
Pathetic actually.
Interestingly (or not), and apologies if its been mentioned elsewhere, there are 33 non-league games today (National League North, South, and FA Trophy), only 3 were postponed from what I can tell on the BBC.

I would ponder whether the uptake in vaccine rate is far higher the lower down the league you go as these players, being semi-pro/amateur depend on other earnings to live their day to day lives?

Just a thought that occurred as I was looking at the games list for today as it seemed anomalous that so few games were cancelled compared to the UK pro- leagues ?

Edit: apologies for non related game talk

I didnt realise the mayor declaring that. In that case it goes ahead behind closed doors? I think that is inevitable. We will lose the income for sure but suspect that will head that way anyways. I was watching some of the darts yesterday - talk about a covid haven - right there...

Im not going - just sold my ticket and looking at the stadium tickets available - its half the stadium.

With so many pubs, bars, restaurants etc closing due to lack of staff due to Covid. I just cannot see how Tottenham will not suffer the same fate due to stewards, support staff, bar staff etc. Add to that the police, ambulance staff . One presumes that all those that enter the stadium have to sign up to the Tottenham Covid protocol that all the supporters have had to and prove double jabs and lft tests etc.
Trust to say Xmas is to important to me and my family so I will not be going until the new year.

It’s only just happened mate, within the last hour.
Behind closed doors makes more sense, providing no more players test positive.

Doubt it will go ahead, but that will be due to Liverpool players. Major incident is more to do with lack of ambulance and fire crews, so means they can draft in army where needed to do emergency response, cancel holiday leave etc.
