I’m 44, so further into middle age grumpiness.

A & C to be captain.
At 44, I make you on your way out the other side of middle age and heading into old age grumpiness fast! :cautious:
It's ok though, I'm a couple of years ahead of you and it's a comfy place to be! :D

Nice to see us play with such intensity and professionalism. In the past, including the very recent past, we would have played this sort of fixture at half pace. Ndombele bossed the midfield while Tanganga at the back was faultless throughout. I absolutely love the way that kid plays. He looks far more experienced and composed than Sanchez.

For me, it was so nearly a great display.
We pressed well, we defended well, we moved the ball from back to front well.
But we just lacked that little bit of incisiveness around the box. We saw it once with Moura's goal but I'd liked to have seen more of it from players of the quality of Bale, Alli, and Moura.
A lot of the moves broke down because a pass was just behind, slightly too wide, or slightly too far in front of the receiver.

Seems a bit picky for a 4-0 win we dominated from start to finish but I see this as a stepping stone for the starting eleven and whilst Vinicius certainly looked the part I'm not convinced the other 3 did enough in terms of threat to really command that other wide role (Moura/Bale), or a place in the middle (Alli).

Exactly what I was thinking watching the game, especially first half.

And even more pleasing that there wasn't another Antwerp performance. Everyone bar Ndombele isn't a regular starter right now but they all looked like they wanted to give Mourinho something to think about.
Yes the opposition were poor but we had the right attitude from minute one, with and without the ball.

Mourinho will be delighted with what he saw and also a bit relieved. After Antwerp our squad depth was starting to only look good on paper but the approach to last night's game will have restored his confidence that these guys can be relied upon when it really matters.

December/January will bring bundles of matches and the need for more rotation in the Premier League, otherwise we'll suffer a number of fatigue injuries.
