Isn't the law only about playing the ball forward?
No. There is nothing in the law about the direction of the ball.

Typically when a ball is played backwards the player is behind the ball and thus not offside. In this case Kane was ahead of the ball and, sadly, offside.

We more than deserved the win for the second half performance. It might not have been the most pretty but the players gave maximum effort imo. The only chances Sporting had in the second half were counter attacks, their coach couldn't even watch ffs but apparantly we were shit according to some.
We were absolutely all over them. Yes they had a couple of chances on the break but we were camped in their half

It's a correct call from VAR based on the unbelievably stupid rules that have been put in place

And that's why football feels hollow at the moment...regardless of how boring our manager is

I rarely celebrate goals anymore as you just never know what VAR will do. The way VAR is used Is absolutely horrible and drain the joy and passion out off the game.

Pedro Mendes wishes VAR was around when his goal from the half way line was disallowed against Utd years ago after Carroll scooped the ball out of the net despite it being a yard over the line

ah, such a beatiful ending, just what we needed: a controversial call that denies Spurs a victory they had little business getting after a shambolic performance for 2/3 of the game. just the perfect recipe for everyone to dodge a lot of backlash.

The problem with this VAR is in that close situations it should not interfer with the decisions on the pitch as I can not see how the technology can really guarantuee to stop the game exactly when the ball is played and how the lines really are. Boggling how they still want to force to see something.

That said... we looked way better with someone on the pitch who made runs, leaves the system, demands the ball, adds pace, delivers crosses and had some fire. Well done Bryan and he should get a run in that team now even if it breaks Contes heart if its not the perfect player to play alongside Royal. Wouldnt even be surprised if Sarr or Spence could acutally make such an influence from the bench either but we will probably never know.

The other two subs, have laugh Tony.

But they are told not to make a call and let var decided.

I'm amazed how many football experts we have on this forum that don't know the laws of the game.

Interesting that it’s taken the part of the body that Emerson connected with the ball as opposed to the rest of his body that has ahead of Kane
It's not taken any part of Emerson's body. It's the position of the ball.

Marseille have been pretty dreadful at home really which is a good thing.

Especially with how good we are away from home

That's just goal line technology though, surely? I've got no issue with that.

Why not just put a two minute max timer on offsides call.

If they can't determine by then the goal should always stand.

We were poor first half, good second half.

We didn’t play well at all first half. The second half we came out and gave it a go. A lot more intensity and a bit of passion. They could have put the tie to bed with the miss Nazinho had in last ten minutes. We scored and then scored again to win the tie but a man sat in a dark room somewhere in Europe decided after a five minute wait that the goal should not be awarded.

poor fans that had to endure that travesty at the end there. We mite as well just stop playing the beautiful game as some bloke sat in a dark room somewhere could just decide that celebrations can’t be celebrations.
