The VAR check also had to go through several checks.

1st check was to see if Royal was offside - it was close, but he was on.

2nd check is to check on Kane - and probably did a first check to see if Kane was behind the 2nd defender, and then when that showed Kane offside, they had to check to see if he was behind the ball, which also showed he was offside. Setting those lines takes time.

Then, I suspect they too a moment to evaluate the ball off the defender - to make a determination whether that was an intentional play on the ball - I think that's a close call, and probably took a little time to decide.

We will get hammered last 16 anyway if we play like that
We were excellent in the second half.

Against Newcastle, who played very similarly to Sporting, we created nothing after scoring. Tonight we absolutely battered Sporting and had loads of opportunities to score.

The first half was unacceptable but I’m nowhere near as angry tonight as I was on Sunday especially given the ludicrous decision.

I agree. I was saying it wasn't offside. Or at least not clear enough to rule it offside.

VAR for offsides doesn't just look at a single camera angle. It uses all available to determine the positioning of the players at the point in time the ball is played.

It's a close call but Kane was in an offside position unfortunately.

Hey, chill. I mishit the rating by accident. And it's only a disagree. If any, I really don't agree my point being irrelevant despite me being not as well versed in the laws of football. Okay? And I don't think everyone must answer to why they disagree too, this is a forum - that's what I was told a few years back. Right?
Some people can dish it out but can't take it

Much better second half, and with just a tiny bit of fucking luck we make it through to the knockouts.
But lets get it right, we've drawn the game because of the awful lacklustre performance in the first half.

Bentancur again the one consistent quality player. And Gil had a very promising cameo.

This **** referee has prior. Did the same to Portugal without VAR and ended up having to apologise to them.

Surely not a good look for a police man to be taking bribes
Thinking more about this and I'm not one for a conspiracy theory but was this his way of evening things up with Portugal?

It didn't hit him, he was running back to intercept it and he did.
I seriously wonder if they missed that movement because they were looking at the freeze frame.
Their player was behind Harry Kane when he played it to Kane.
Well if that's the case that's slightly different. They didn't really show it to be honest. He literally has to make a momentum to play the ball, IE swing a leg at it which I haven't yet seen. Looked from the limited replays he was just following Kane's movement which wouldn't be classed as an attempt to play the ball.

Doesn’t fit the tactical regiditty. Doesn’t fit the physical profile.

but by god I want to see it. Let the Beatles sing.
I actually think he could/would be fine tactically if he’s given a consistent chance especially if Royal is next to him who’s strongest defensively. Once he’s not trying so hard and relaxes of course.

Physically I agree but he’s never going to adapt to to the PL if he doesn’t play. There are plenty of players just as slight as him who don’t struggle.

I certainly don’t see him being any worse the Lucas and i would rather we stick with 343 then swap back to 352.

Yes it’s probably because he brings flair and excitement but he has delivered in last two games. Our goal tonight came from a corner he won and last time he got us a pen. I think he’s earned that chance considering our injuries. He’s got a lot of potential imo.

Sorry but this keeps getting wheeled out and it’s bullshit. It doesn’t explain why we are much worse than last season despite a decent window. Ok we are missing Kulu but so many players are worse than they were a few months ago (Son most of all). I genuinely don’t get why so many people on here don’t seem to think Conte has any responsibility for our performances at all. It’s a brilliant free pass if you can get it
It's pretty obvious why. We are playing a game every three days and the squad is struggling to cope with it.

Then they should show us the evidence that showed it was offside.

The ball taking a deflection off the defender is irrelevant?

Cant believe former professional players (and defenders at that) don't know the offside law. Actually I can, but they come off so ignorant.

This whole millimetre shit is just madness.
The tv camare are shot with 60 frames per second.
A pro footballer can run 33km/h top speed.

in each of the frames the error margin is approx. 16 cm- the camera cannot see more than that- so in each case the total error margin is actually 32 cm.

if a defender is “lucky” with his positioning in that particular frame, and if the attacker is equally “unlucky” with his frame they will have added cm that’s impossible to see with the current frame rate.

therefore offsides like this is just ridiculous.
Had the frame been luckier with Kane- he’s on.
