Thanks for the info, much appreciated. When/where did we get him from?
from celta vigo at 16, came with a reputation as a goal-scoring midfielder but that's not really materialised yet, he's mostly been a rotational player though. needs to improve physically if he's to impose himself on games more but he works hard and does show some signs of decent ability.

I’d really like to see us make more use of our youth academy.

I feel like I’m recent years we’ve really not looked at it and dipped into it more - perhaps I’m wrong and I’m willing for someone to show me otherwise.

However other than Tanganga, I don’t feel like recent seasons have really given much hope to youngsters getting blooded in to the team. Dane is probably a sort of exception, but I guess given his very young age, we’re still waiting on him to just push on a bit more.

I’d definitely like to see Devine, Markanday, John, and maybe one or two others on the bench a bit more. It just always feels like in the clubs mind the young players are so far away from the first team.

I get that people want us to challenge higher up, and that youth is a risk, but given their current form, is Markanday for example likely to be anymore of a risk off the bench than Ndombele?

As I say, maybe I’m wrong - it just feels like we aren’t getting the most from our academy and youth prospects, especially when you consider we don’t pay massive massive fees for players often and therefore could look internally for our best players.
From what I read in here, I'd take the impression that our academy has greatly improved over the last few years.
I may be completely wrong and just being optimistic but it feels like we've got some real potential coming through, from the u23s down to the u16s.

Whether we'll manage to give out many chances though is a different matter but it's worth remembering that the more successful the 1st team are, the harder it becomes to bring youngsters through.

lovely worked goal, reminds me a bit of the one the first team scored against vitesse. markanday's step over and taking it down the outside is a trademark son move(but opposite foot).

Don’t seem to hear much about scarlet anymore , any reason for this

Sadly I think he also hasn’t quite lived up to the hype and people have already given up on him, which is a bit ridiculous considering his age. In truth he was probably pushed to forefront way to early.

It’s so depressing that we are going to lose Markanday.

I cannot believe he hasn’t been given a chance in the first team. Honesty think he has the talent to really explode and become a top player. Just needs a chance!

The infuriating thing about Markanday is I’m sure it’s just about money I can’t see any other obstacle. It’s clear he wants to stay, I can’t believe we don’t want him to stay. And when you compare it to the ridiculous amounts we pay some of the bums we sign it’s probably peanuts. Likely the difference between £10k a week and £20k a week.

I doubt its got anything to do with money. I have no doubt that Dilan wants reassurances about his pathway, whether that's a loan or first team opportunities. What he absolutely does not want is to commit himself to the club for another three or four years only to be left stagnating into his mid-twenties like CCV.

Tbh I don’t know how any young player can expect assurances on playing time. All the club can say is if you perform you will get a chance or we will find best loan. Has CCv really done that badly had some pretty decent loans at biggish clubs played a lot of football and now regular for Celtic.

As a side note Donley dad said his cast is off day before WBA youth cup game and he’s trained right through so might be good to go straight away.
