I wouldn’t worry, football has been like this for a couple of decades. Think of Utd and Antwerp.

I think our issue is the journey from U18 to senior football (anywhere, let alone at Spurs). Too many players just disappear into obscurity with us. Other clubs probably get as many youth players into their first team as us, but they also see a lot more youth products go on to make it elsewhere.

We have not used the loan market well enough (not since Sherwood was in charge of it).
We have not had consistency in the first team setup for players to get exposure there.
Us as a fan base have not been in the right place to allow youth to fail to succeed (could you imagine Jose or Conte’s dire football while also exposing inexperienced youth to it?)

Kyle Walker-Peters was kept at the club too long without senior football, then Tangana had the same, Lyon-Foster is another,Nile John, and the two keepers, Austin and Whiteman, while having gone abroad on loan, have also been kept on too long without enough senior football experience.

it’s a disservice to them and their careers, let alone to the Tottenham senior team. It’s good to see Phillips out on loan, Dorrington and Craig lining up temporary moves, and I would say a lot of U23s could do with a loan.

Really the best prospects who are on the cusp should be out on loan (eg Devine) as that is where they will develop the most. Then the younger, even less ready players who can take the final couple of spots on the bench, gain from being around the first team and if they get a few mins, it raises their profile even if they dont touch the ball. Then when the time comes makes it more likely they will get a good loan

Generally, loans have positives and negatives but are far too overvalued. It is true that it helps them get exposure but developmentally it can help but it can also hurt. At the cusp it also depends, do they need to get experience of competitive football etc or do you want control in their development and mold them to suit your style. Depends. The important thing is there being a plan, not the exact nature of it.

Yep - I think that's one of the attractions of Spurs Youth Academy. The fact that prospective kids can see that even if they don't make it at Spurs, it gives a good opportunity to whittle a nitch out somewhere in the game and have a good career.

I stand corrected, really interesting numbers there. From an anorak’s point of view, I’d love to see the list of names

Do we have a sell on clause for Jack Clarke? Just seen Sky saying West Ham were interested in him.

West Ham most strongly linked but Palace and Brentford are also reportedly interested. Sunderland fans are expecting him to move this window. Fee is likely to be a minimum of £20m and we have a sell on clause of somewhere between 30-50% depending on which report you read.

Whatever it amounts to, hopefully it’ll boost to the transfer kitty rather than disappearing into the ether. If we manage to get a fee for Dier as well that’s two deals we probably wouldn’t have accounted for this window and gives us the funds to seal the Kelly deal or to go big on any prospects that are on the list.

I'm sure someone mentioned it somewhere, probably earlier in here, that he would still be coming back for training with us.
Part of the bonus of sorting local-ish loans and probably something we should look to build a bit of a network of.
There are enough local clubs of all levels to be able to build decent relationships with and help our youth gain experience while still under close watch of the academy.

Not really, Hall probably our biggest CM talent but he's obviously not ready. I haven't seen anyone from the U21's from a CM perspective that is ready for the 1st team. Donley plays slightly more advanced. My best guess would be Hojbjerg, Bentancur & Kulusevski.

Donley is a #10 and has been playing the Maddison role for the U21s, so he could do it. I suspect we will see Deki there though, with Johnson on the right and Werner & Richarlison play the LW and Striker roles (not sure which will play where though).

Skipp seems to be ahead of Hojbjerg in Ange’s thinking, although I’d vote for PEH.

Completely disagree, if anything it's our strongest. We have Devine, Donley Kyerematen, Hall and Olusesi who look good for their age groups.
