I know but if a shirt was to be retiered it should of been that one. Its to late now

Why? so the last memory we have of the number is someone who screwed us over and moved to Arsenal?

WOuld rather keep in and have it 'rested' (think this is a better way of exsplaing what i would prefer) when someone does something special at the club

That makes a lot more sense, but really I think it just depends on the player, so I don't even really think it's necessary to even do that.

sorry..its utter bollocks. I think Benitez is losing the plot...seriously.
11 players, 1 to 11, each of them need a number. Its the kind of mandate I'd expect from someone working at the EU.

The Man City player who passed away on the pitch a few years ago had his number retired - and rightly so. I don't see any need for us to do that unless there were exceptional circumstances - heaven forbid.

I have tried very hard to forget which numbers Judas played in. Please do not remind me again!

Is it just me that thinks there just numbers. I can slighlty see the respect in not using a players number if he dies whilst in contract but not for great players.

dont get me wrong ledley is international class and the best central defender i've ever at tottenham, but he has hardly yet achieved the success to warrent his shirt number being retired,

in 10 years time when its time to retire, if he's still with us and has overcome the injury crisis, making several hundred appearances for the club then maybe, but he's nowhere near achieving that status yet.

Maldini i can fully understand - ledley doesnt quite have the credentials just yet.

Numbers mean absolutely nothing - its the quality and class of the player that means everything - its his name that will live on in peoples minds not his stupid number!
Benitez not only makes himself look stupid but questions the mentality of his players!
The man is a clown!

Oh God, thank you :clap:i was starting to think i was the only one that thought this was utter tosh. You think a top player might reject a shirt number for fear of high expectation? Utter crap; in fact, if I'd just spent 'x' million on a new signing to find him worrying about numbers on his shirt I might ask for my money back.
