Ok chaps, I have noticed a distinct negative tone to a number of recent threads. However I am going to buck the tread and focus on Mr Woodgate and in particular his distribution.

Our new man spread 50-60 yard passes like an old fashioned Libro. The hacks on fleet street have Terry and Rio on pedestals that cant be budged, however I beleive we have a superior defender. This guy is World class. FACT:wink::wink:

Be objective. King is a class but IMO Woodgate is the 2nd best center half in Europe behind Nesta.

Woodgate has been excellent since he's arrived and has a medal in his back pocket to boot. Has been my motm in his last two games for us and a winning goal at Wembley as well, if we can keep him fit we've got a top player.

There's no doubt, he's not really got the recognition his talents warrant. I'll admit, i was probably amongst those that, despite not seeing as much of him as i could've, wrote him off as a reliable but nothing outstanding defender.

Watching him play regularly he looks determined, he looks sharp and his movement off the ball is as good as it gets. Without overdoing it, the hawk-like stare he adopts gives me confidence that his mind is on the game and nothing else. You can also see how his ability to tidy up right across the back line has given Robbo a touch of confidence and, with King organising things, we do look very solid.

The goal we conceded was a careless moment from Gilberto and there really wasn't much that either Woody or Deadly could do about it, so that shouldn't reflect too badly on them.

To be fair, I thought he hoofed it more than most (except Robbo) last night, when hoofing it clearly wasn't getting us anywhere...

Agree with the rest though...

Woody has fit well into the team, he has performed well consistently.. Hes a good tackler, header and passer. A great addition to the team, well done JR for bringing this lad in.

Good positive post. I never thought i would see Woodgate ever wearing a Spurs shirt but im glad he is. What a defender, i never realised how good his distribution was and can see why Real paid 13mill for him after one season at the barcodes.

For some time I've thought that Woody is the best English CB and I'm staggered that he only has 6 caps. I'm delighted he signed for us.

As well as the team played, I think that he was the difference between us winning and losing at Wembley. By getting us in Europe next season he has probably already paid back his transfer fee,

I never really rated him until he was at boro, then I saw what all the initial fuss was about.
I remember thinking in december "If we need a defender, we want to get someone like Woodgate", just imagine how happy I was when we went and got him!

I think I've said it before, but if Woody and The King are fit and raring to go next season, they'll be the best central defensive partnership in the country, if not the world.
