Strikers in January window

The prospect of Kevin Doyle in January isn't one that would be overly welcomed, by the looks of it, but I think it is fair to say that we [still] do need another striker.

Defoe could well return and set the premiership alight, and all of this will be forgotten about, but I think his current injury highlights the fact that we need more than just him, and our options at the moment are not great. We definitely need another stiker who can score goals, bu this usually entails having other qualities that enable them to get into positions to score goals, such as aerial ability, touch and control, strength, ability to hold the ball up, work rate, finishing and composure in front of goal.

Now, while we don't actually have a wage cap, we are restricted in how much we are going to offer new players, and I don't believe we would offer anyone over £100k a week. I'm not entirely sure, but I think the current top earner is on something like £70k a week (open to corrections). Given our current wage policy, are there any strikers who you feel would be worth signing in January? assuming that we need someone who can slot straight into the team, without needing too much time to adapt to the premiership.

Mlapa, L.Traore or Lukaku

I personally would quite like Llorente as Dzeko is out of the question

If Ajax go out of the CL group I think Suarez could be realistic. If not then Zarate has been linked quiete a bit of late.

Oh Niko Kalinic! Love that guy.

Agree we could do with signing the next big thing but none of them are proven, I like the look of Llorente too, Kalinic aint exactly set the league alight no better than what we have

Elamnder looked tasty today against Man U!

I dont think he is the answer but seen as we are capping our wages at 70k who else is there??

40M would buy Torres
35M would Buy Eto'o
30M Would buy Fabiano
35M would buy Dzeko
35M would buy Higuian

Are we ever likely to spend that kind of money? Dont bite my head off i'm simply asking. Its not like we have no money!

What a simplistic view to have.

So because Kalinic at the age of 20, in his first season playing in a new country for Blackburn Rovers didn't make a Torres-like impact then there's no point in looking at him?

I've liked what I've seen of him and feel he could flourish playing alongside the quality of player that we have here, has excellent touch and technique similar to that of Berbatov and could become a gem of a player. But no, he he didn't tear the league up last year so no point going there.

something on Sky Sports today that Fabiano is now unhappy sitting on the bench at Seville...mmmm

They are playing now and he started the game!!! plus we couldnt afford him when his contract was due so now that he has a brand new contract we have no chance!

I've seen nothing in him to suggest he'll tear the league up, surely the whole point of needing a new striker is that we need one for now not for the future

Andy Carroll please.

I haven't seen enough of him to judge, but he certainly looks like he could be suitable. He offers a lot of the attributes we are crying out of, and he would fit into our wage structure.

I can't see us getting a big name striker in January.

It may all depend on if we sneak into the knockout stages of the CL, we may then attempt the impossible.

I think we should call it quits on Fabiano though. He's passed us up on several occasions now.
