Who’s the back up out of Diaz, Mane, Jota, Salah and Firmino? Liverpool only start with three up top. We need to start thinking like a big club and not have a set group of players that are guaranteed to start and then a drop of quality on the bench, that sort of mentality only breads complacency imo. More competition is good.

Totally right. I think some of the
You raise an excellent point and your example backs it up well.

Is it fair to say that adding further attacking options (or any options) is far easier when you don’t have an obvious weakness or hole in the squad?

For example Kounate was signed due to the hole left by VVD absent the season before, Gomes was also injury plagued and Matip (at the time) was rank off form.

They prioritised a reinforcement which plugged a hole. They didn’t go out and add another attacker until they were happy that the bread and butter was sorted.

In an ideal world you would prioritise signings but we are not yet in a position to get players we want when we want for the price we want/cab afford.

Also when liv had a CB injury crisis they went cheap and got 2 shit centre backs. Where are they now?!!

Or maybe we rotate Deki, Son and Dybala, so each gets a rest every 3 games and the quality of the 1st 11 doesn't drop. We've seen what happens to our players when they get overplayed and burned out, imagine keeping them fresh.

Or simply select the front 3 purely for tactical reasons rather than them being our best three players? Stretching, penetration, getting in behind etc.

So, throwing Dybala in the mix, shall we get all 3 ? From your description we need Lauturo more than Nunez. We have a finisher. I'd go with Dybala on a free though to have some spends for defence and midfield.
I think Nunez is better currently and will be better in the long term too. Caveat is level of opposition. Lautaro to me would be a son replacement/competition, he’s much closer to him than Kane. Nunez is the opposite but somewhere in between Kane and son. If dybala is obtainable then yes that should be the first option explored.

Great post. It’s a shame we never acted like the big club when we were awesome under Poch. And let’s face it, if Kane stays we won’t sign another striker.

It’s football insider so probably rubbish, but supposedly we have put in a 2 mil bid in for 22 year old Oxford defender McNnally. I hardly watch any of the lower leagues, anyone know if he’s any good?

This a joke? “Went cheap and got 2 shit centre backs”.

VVD was signed at the height of their problems. He’s now established as one of the best CB’s in the world and elevated them to one of the best teams around.

Your post is a hard one to defend.

I think he means last season when they signed Ben Davies from Preston and ozan kabak now at Norwich.

We are all so brainwashed. It's a squad game. Potentially a 60 GAME SEASON

Noone would have thought sane salah firmino would be rotated but that is what is happening with diaz and jota. If they didn't sign those 2 they would be playing minamino and origi
Look I’m not against competition for places, but given we are not Liverpool level just yet can we justify 2 top class players in one position when we have big holes elsewhere? Also just saying I’d rather bring a player who covers multiple positions. Dybala only plays in the Deki role in our current formation and would clearly be first choice thereby relegating deki to the bench for big games, which I don’t think his early performances deserve. To play the. Both would mean switching to 4231 which seems unlikely. I’d love dybala st spurs but given current situation would rather spend the money on someone who can cover Kane plus another position. 5 for 3 spots is fine, 2 WC players for 1 spot seems like a luxury right now.

Point made.

Not too dissimilar to most clubs though, no?

'Squad filler' plugs gap until such a time first team regular is back up and running?

When Davies and Kabak was signed, they still had Gomez, Matip and VVD waiting in the wings (albeit injured). With Fabinho and Henderson able deputy's.

Through fear of going off piece, prioritising a Dybala like signing could compromise personnel in other positions. Personnel which would be far more critical in terms of the "bigger picture".

Son --- Kane --- Kulu worries me far less then a half crocked Sessegnon LWB and Matt Doherty RWB starting most weeks, hence my belief in prioritising key additions first.

Leeds fans seem to agree that his future is as a wingback.

Does the article mention any fee? It’s locked.

This is what it says:

Tottenham keeping tabs on Jack Harrison and Sam Johnstone

Tottenham have an interest in signing Leeds United winger Jack Harrison during the summer window after attempting to land him in January.

The 25-year-old was the subject of an enquiry two months ago but there was no consideration of selling from Leeds, with Spurs moving onto their priorities in other positions and landing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

Harrison was seen as a player who could play for Antonio Conte as a left wing-back as well as a forward in the Italian's 3-4-3 system, having impressed in his first two seasons in the Premier League during which time his loan from Manchester City was turned into a £11million deal.

Spurs retain an interest in landing Harrison when the window opens in the summer and Conte will look to strengthen his squad again, with their final targets and budgets likely to be determined by whether they qualify for European football.

It is understood that Fabio Paratici has been alerted to Harrison by Andrea Pirlo, who worked with the Spurs director of football while they were both at Juventus. Pirlo was a team-mate of Harrison at New York City after the Stoke-born winger graduated from Wake Forest Demon Deacons in America.

Harrison was a Manchester City player from 2018 until last summer but was loaned out to Middlesbrough and then Leeds before helping them get promoted from the Championship and seeing his deal turned permanent.

He has scored seven goals this season, including in the match against Wolves before the international break when Leeds came from two behind to win and take a huge stride towards Premier League safety.

Spurs are also among the teams who have looked at England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as a potential free transfer in the summer.

The West Bromwich Albion keeper is out of contract in three months and has attracted interest from Premier League clubs who can sign him without paying a transfer fee.
