The Stambouli issue is interesting. If indeed Marseille have genuine interest in Stambouli and he is their number 1 target, i think we might see a player from Marseille coming to us (Imbula or Thauvin anyone?).

Yeah I like both, Imbula has impressed more than Thauvin this season but Thauvin has pretty much been stuck out on the right wing most games and you won't get the best of a player of his qualities doing that, he needs a bit of freedom to get the best from him.
I imagine that if Schneiderlin is off the menu we'll be trying for McCarthy because he has PL experience and may be a possibility in a deal that sees Lennon stay there. The other likely target is Rabiot ahead of Imbula, but both could be tough targets so we may need to look at options further down the list

With Ayew all but certain to sign for Roma now, we are in danger of completely striking out when it comes to quality Bosman signings that could improve out starting XI. Ayew, Ings, Milner, Reid, Delph all going elsewhere or signing extensions. Only Konoplyanka and Gignac remain and it seems we seemingly have no interest in either. Given that we have the lowest net spend in the EPL and have not spent more than 8 million pounds on our last 8 transfer signings, these aforementioned players represented the best chance, in my opinion, to bring in quality talent without major transfer fees that we clearly won't pay.

I think this is going to be a very difficult summer for us. I just don't think the club, for whatever reason, is willing to spend enough to bring in at least one improvement to the first 11, let alone the 3 signings everyone here has been calling for throughout this thread. Things can change with time, but I think release clauses and players on expiring contracts are going to be the themes for this summer, just like they was last summer.

Bosman transfers aren't as cheap as they seem on paper. Ayew would cost about £15m if he were under contract I suspect. With him being "free" he will expect a massive signing on fee and much bigger wages than he would usually command. Ing's compensation is rumoured to be up around the £8m figure! Thats before signing on fee and again, bigger wages than he would usually command.

There are some relative bargains to pick up on Bosman deals but I don't want us bringing in players for the sake of it. Ayew I think would fit well in England. Ings would be good and Milner would be great. Delph and Reid are pointless wondering about as they signed extensions. I think Delph would have improved us, Reid? Not one bit.
Konoplyanka and Gignac would be 'for the sake of it' signings I think. Konoplyanka looks good at times but he seems very flakey. Like a poor mans Ashavin and he was something of a flop in England. Gignac is average

I just hope we bring in the players Poch wants. Be they free or not.

I think young Grealish plays the way we would like as one of the 3 behind Kane. Likes a 1-2, comfortable on the ball and usually looks to play forward. Assume he would count as a HG under 21 so wouldn't take a squad place leaving us to ship out Lennon, Townsend and bring in Pritchard and someone nippy and direct?

Grealish isn't better than Townsend atm , we need to trust our own.

Personally I find our lack of Bosmans encouraging. Hopefully it means that we are committing to buying the players we have identified as the right for for the system, rather than any players who are good and cheap and forcing then into a team. That strategy has failed us in the past and I hope this is an indication that we have moved on.

I don't agree with you at all regarding Konoplyanka or Gignac. They are both highly experienced, talented players that would be major upgrades to the likes of Adebayor and Townsend. Players better than them cost more than we are willing to pay in the transfer market in combined transfer fees and wages. Of our last 8 signings, none have cost more than Fazio at 8 million pounds. The kinds of players Poch likes (Clyne, Schneiderlin, Moreno, Rodriguez, Bacca), Levy likely won't sanction moves for.

By the way, if Winston Reid, a highly experienced EPL CB would not have improved us in your opinion, then would Kevin Wimmer? Wimmer has 1 season of top flight experience for a bottom of the table side in the Bundesliga that was fighting just to stay up, so he's never had to face the type of pressure he'll see in the EPL with high pressing team leaving him exposed against pacey attackers.

I agree with most of your post except for the end, as Koln was no scrapper. They were solid midtable the entire season, and had one of the best defensive records in the league. Wimmer wasn't "barely keeping his head above water" in that league, and he's faced relentless pressure in their year up. Germany has plenty of fast, ruthless, quick counterattacking sides, so the pace of the Prem won't be beyond his experience.

The only real concern I have is dealing with the holiday stretch, something many players from the Bundesliga have struggled to cope with initially. Massive, massive difference going from a break lasting before Christmas to the end of January, to the brutal holiday run faced in the EPL.

As for the rest of your post, spot on.

Massimo Luongo looks to be on his way to QPR (I'm sure it has been discussed already). The interesting part about the transfer is the 50% sell-on clause that was put into place when he made his move to Swindon.

The question I have is it looks like a "pair deal" with Luongo and Ben Gladwin going to QPR. Is it expected that QPR paid less for Luongo and more for Gladwin to circumvent the 50% clause?

Newpaper reports I've seen suggest the joint value of the deal is £3.5m, so lets say it, might be split £2m for Luongo and £1/5m for Gladwin then the 50% is worth £800k (£2m less £400k x 50%) and if £2.5m for Luongo and £1m for Gladwin its still only £1m - so whatever the split the 50% sell on clause is not big money for Spurs.

The bigger surprise for me is that the joint deal is worth only £3.5m - I had hoped that Luongo slone would go for £5m or so, and a joint deal closer to double the £3.5m the press have reported .

Why does it have to be a player coming in from Marseille - why not just a sale of Stambouli How many sales have we made in recent seasons with a player coming in the other way (other than the Sigursson/Vorm/Davies transfers), not saying they don't happen just that they are not that common

Coz i find it interesting that Stambouli came to Spurs and do not have much playing time. And when he played, he did not look too much out of place. I find it abit "fishy". Maybe the stambouli purchase has all along been a "business agreement" between us and Marseille? But i agree with you on swopping players sales, do not happened often.

Tottenham have rejected a request from Marseille to take Benjamin Stambouli on loan but the French side are continuing to push for a deal.

Stambouli only signed last summer from Montpellier in a £4million deal but has failed to cement a first team place and is available as Tottenham restructure their squad.

However, Tottenham will only consider a permanent deal and want to recoup their outlay from Marseille.

I really want an experienced, household name to come in and help out the young lads. In the way that Davids and Naybet did for us, and like Cambiasso has done for Leicester this term.
I don't know a lot about what's happening outside the PL, so who can hurl some names at me that would fit the bill? Is Del Piero still playing?

Just for arguments sake, Bacca would be a stupid signing. He wouldn't be our number 1 striker firstly, plus he will be 29 come middle September. £15M or so for a depreciable asset which has very little prospect, no thank you.
