What about the Italian CB on loan at Hull from Inter? I thought we were linked with him in the past and he's been quite impressive, has experience and if he costs the reported £8.5m that seems good value, could be another Toby and would be cheaper than Keane or Maguire.

Ranocchia? He's crap and he's 29

I don't know if you remember, but he caught my eye early in the season (This was a rely to you back then):

And he's been bloody good whenever I've seen Nice since. I watched him live 90 mins a couple of weeks ago and he pretty much ran the game, got through an absolute shit load of ball (108 90%). Funnily enough I was looking him up last night. He's the sixth highest passer of a ball in Europe (and makes more key passes than all those above him on that list including the likes of Alcantara and Verrati) and with 9 assists also makes at least double the assists of all those above him in that list (he's possibly the highest assisting pure CM in Europe this season??).

The strange thing is, I really don't remember him before this season, Nice seem to have plucked from obscurity via Portuguese football.
One problem I've seen (from his stats) is that he makes very few tackles and interceptions per 90, not sure he's what Poch would want from a CM in his formation.

I like Maguire but I think he's a bit slow. Playing on the front foot like we do it's important not to have any weaknesses at the back and I think opponents would look to exploit his lack of speed. I'd sooner us go for Keane.

I would say it's unrealistic to expect us to sign Keane because of his price tag, but with all the Walker rumours, it's all up in the air.

If not Keane then we should probably just place faith in CCV tbh or perhaps buy another CM and use Dier mainly at CB. I don't think it's his best position but still in the back three he is fine. He was only struggling badly when he was played on the left side which I don't think was suited to him at all.

I think the left side is a problem though if Wimmer isn't trusted. Davies would be fine in the back 3 but in a two I wouldn't be sure. It might be something to look at because as I said Dier is awful at LCB.

Possibly one of the slowest CBs you will ever witness.

Maybe, but when you have a Wanyama in your midst, you perhaps don't need his partner to be quite as busy defensively, he (seri) averages more tackles/assists than Winks for example. I know that's a small sample size (in Winks case) but I don't think Seri is lazy per se, he wasn't the game I watched him a couple of weeks ago, and he wasn't in the PSG game (most passes and interceptions for Nice) and I'm sure, like Winks or any player in our group, Poch would make it clear to him that he has to work off the ball. When looking at his stats bear in mind that at Nice Koziello does the defensive shift, they've often played a 433 I think, and Seri is very much more the 8 in that team with a much more offensive remit.

I'm not saying I want him here, but on the 3/4 times of seen him play 90, he's played well and demonstrated some good qualities. It seems we are looking at this "8" type - Tolisso, Keita etc - And whilst that was a position I've been banging on about for 2 years, and if we bring in a real top banana it would be great, I also worry what it means for the likes of Winks and Onomah, especially Onomah who I think has the potential to be an exceptionally good CM/8 if he could only get some proper game time as one.

Nice is a really interesting team in the macro, but just focusing on CM they've got 3 good CMs with Koziello and Seri as you mentioned, but also Wylan Cyprian. Who I think is possibly the best of the 3. Also interesting is they're all fairly short in stature, but they all seem to have good engines on them.

You've got to think we will have quite a good amount of money available to spend. I think we have to take into account the fact that some of that money will be tied up into the stadium (rightfully so) and maybe even some new contracts. But, when you think about the Njie, Fazio (that was since the summer, right?) and Bentaleb money, that already is a substantial amount of funds not yet allocated towards any sort of spend. Add in to that Wimmer, Sissoko, and maybe Walker, there's quite a good amount of money for Pochettino to hopefully bring in a few pieces to round out our side.

It should be a really interesting summer. We've got a bunch of coveted talents now that we are as successful as we are, we've still got some holes in the squad (Lamela being back healthy and contributing will be a huge boost) and it sounds like we should have a decent amount of money to spend. I'm hoping it'll be a summer of limited turnover in regards to our "main contributors" and one that sees us add the quality we need to really take the next step.

Surely it's not quite as simple as that tho, we buy players over certain payment schedules. We may of paid for fazio by now but only getting payments back over a few years? So it doesn't all balance until all contract deals are complete. And it's an on going thing with all players.

Unfortunately last couple of games I've caught Cyprian hasn't played (assume injured) and Nice played 4231 with Seri and Koziello as CM's. Eysseric, Belhanda and Pierera were all pretty lively as the AM3 too. (great to see Belhanda re-surface, he was fucking excellent as the 10 in Montpellier's championship winning season before ending up in the Ukraine).

Out for the season, he ruptured his ACL in March

I know he's on the wing now but do you think Pereira could play wingback?

And as others have stated Cyprian unfortunately blew his ligament.

How much is a lot of money to spend these days though? If we had 100 million to spend, that buys you 2 and a half Zahas. The prices are going to be off the chart
