There are better and simpler ways of showing we won't be bullied than ridiculously overpaying for a kid.

Sign Bale or another world class player and you'll send a bigger message

I think someone said Bale was on £300k per week tax free which is £600k to us with tax. Thats £31.2m per year, plus bonuses paid out on a depreciating asset. The point I tried to make in my post is that a young player might be on £50k per week, £2.6m per year. From what is said on here, players regularly get contract updates with pay rises, when deserved and earned.

Why would the club spend £80m on Bale on a 3 year deal (nearly 29 years old), plus pay £90m in wages + bonuses who will likely be worth £5-10m at the end of the contract. When for that £100m we can have 3 quality youngsters, pay them £50-90k per week for 3 years and still end up with change, and 3 assets who will still have some value.

100+ for Sess and Maddisson is not 'pay reasonably'. And we have not paid over the odds for Llorente. He was very cheap
100m for 2 young players who only played in the Championship is ridiculous.
The thing about players like Wimmer is that we bought him cheap. That's the key in this. If Sess and Maddison end up failing it will be more "cut our losses" than a "good fee" like you claim
Luckily we have Levy in charge

I understand your opinion, I really do. Even when we sign players who don't cut it, we don't make massive losses. I think we do OK.

Have a look at what we have done for the last few years: https://www.transfermarkt.com/tottenham-hotspur/alletransfers/verein/148

So yeah in the 15/16 season we lost 7m Euros on Clinton, but in the same year we picked up Trippier for 4.9m... What a steal!

In 16/17 we picked up Sissoko (divides opinion I know), Wanyama, and shipped out 53m euros worth of lads who didn't quite make the first team.

With every year, we winnow out the lesser players and replace them with better ones, and let the odd grumbling star like Walker leave. If theres 3 Wimmers to every Dele, Dier or Son, the increase in value of the players who do make it, combined with the sale value of the ones who do not have left us with a great team over the last few years.

Why break it by signing stars when we make our own!?

If we get Bale and it is a very slim chance to me, why do people think we would pay 80m and then give him the real madrid wages? The deal only works if the value on the fee makes sense and he would have to accept a huge paycut. There's no point in arguing players against players when you're talking about unrealistic fees. No chance we're giving Bale his Madrid wages, why even bring that up?

Also, @thecleverbit I think it's hard to say we're making our own stars when you're trying to justify spending 100m on 3 young players. Don't think that's quite the same as buying young players for less than 10m a piece.

Would be great if he signed for £80 a week and a bag of crisps... But that isn't likely. :) Any agent who gets % of a deal will want to push for a large wage. Plus, Bale himself might not want a pay cut. Has anyone got any ITK that he wants to come back to us?

I saw the guy play, he was and is a legend. I am not against him coming back, I would love it, but is it realistic?

mate, the transfer market has gone bananas the last few years... We paid £35m for Sanchez, our record signing! Who here would have thought we would break the bank for a centre back if we went back 5 years! Even with the Bale cash the most we spent on one player was for Lamela at £25m and he was arguably more proven than Sanchez. When top players trade for £100-200m, £50m for someone who might go to that level isn't such mental money.

Sanchez had a great season on his belt already and performed in an european cup final. Sessegnon and Maddison have only played in the Championship.
We won't sign either of them for 50m though. I'm quite certain about that. What's scares me is people who think we should. Did we get bought by a Sheik at some point and I didn't get the memo?

Hercules said if we want Bale, he is ours. That implies he would accept a wage within our range. Beside we'll be paying considerably more next season. A wage of 150k p/w could be easily accepted by Bale

Well if you’re certain, I guess that’s the debate over. Can the last one out of the thread shut the door please? :)

All I'm saying is if Bale comes there is no chance its at those figures so why bother using them to compare potential purchases. If we get Bale he comes in for 40m or so and fits in the wage structure. If we can't do the deal around those terms we're not going to do it.

I didn’t see Hercules post, my apologies. I would be so happy if Bale came back... It’s just not very Levy. Older player, on a fairly big wage... To have him playing with Kane, Moura, Son, Alli, Eriksen... Yes please!

It is mental money though. Bernardo Silva didn't go for that much and he played fantastic throughout the Champions League last season for Monaco. Lacazette didn't go for that much, not to mention Mo Salah. The only players in the premier league who were purchased for over 50m this summer were Mendy, Morata and Lukaku.

Yeah, you’re right in that context it’s a lot. I guess if we come back to this thread in a year and see what the summer prices for players were, that would be a fairer way to judge what he’s worth.

I say that because the new TV deal money might shift all prices up again this year. Clubs might not want to sell, and those that do face spending more if they want to replace players, buying them from clubs who also have more cash and pushing the price up for everyone...

Has anyone played this years version of Football Manager and signed Sess and played him for a few seasons? Let’s see if he’s worth it?! :)

As this is the 'Summer Transfer Wish List - 2018' thread I thought that I'd share my thoughts on this and wait to see what fellow Spurs Community members think.

Spurs for 2018-2019 season

Goal
Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga

There’s talk of Vorm moving on. I think he’s an excellent back-up to Lloris but if he moves we need to ensure that we have a competent back-up in his place.

Right wing-back
Aurier, Trippier, Walker-Peters

Walker-Peters is a tricky one. Is he good enough to be one of the alternating wing-backs? If he’s ready then what to do? Difficult decision to be made.

Left wing-back
Davies, Tierney

(Rose to be sold)

Tierney has shown himself more than capable of playing left-wing back with Celtic. He’s also played left-centre defense. At a pinch he could play that role if we needed him in the middle.

Centre Defense
Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth, De Ligt

(Alderweireld and Carter-Vickers to be sold)

Foyth may or may not be ready. I’ve certainly been impressed with him when he’s played. De Ligt of Ajax looks to be the real deal and could play both the left and right sides of the centre. I like Swansea’s Mawson – but De Ligt has more upside in my view. Dier could play in the centre when needed.

Centre defensive midfield
Dier, Wanyama

All set here.

Centre creative midfield
Dembele, and one of Seri, Kovacic and Rabiot – respectively of Nice, Real Madrid and PSG.

(Onomah to be sold; Winks to be loaned out)

This is the most crucial area for additional quality in my view. Dembele is reaching that age when we won’t be able to depend on him for every game. Winks needs more time. Adding real quality here would be key in taking us to the next level.

Forwards/attacking midfield
Kane, Alli, Eriksen, Son, Moura, Lamela, Bailey

(Sissoko, Janssen, Llorente, N’Koudou to be sold).

We need players who can make an immediate impact next season. Leon Bailey can do that. He’s proved it with Bayer Leverkusen this year. The attacking side of our team is well set - we just need to tweek it a bit. Son and Bailey could play in the centre if Kane is injured or needs a rest. Possibly sell Lamela if we can get a good price for him. Could keep one of the 'sell' players above to have a 24-man squad. Or bring up emerging talent from our 'reserves'.

Summary

Bring in – De Ligt, Tierney, Kovacic (or other similar) and Bailey.

I'm certain we won't sign him for that money. That's what I'm saying. Or better phrased, I'm certain Levy won't pay that for either of them. If we sign them it will be for less money

Leverkusen want 100m for Bailey. Never happening

Rabiot would seem to be the obvious target in CM. We were linked with him in the past when he wasn't happy with the amount he was playing, and he seemed interested in the club at the time. We've only progressed since then and he's run his contract down to just having a year left come the summer, which indicates that he's either trying to bolster his bargaining position for a new contract or is genuinely interested in leaving.

We have a great relationship with PSG so if they do decide that they need to sell we'd be in a strong position. Still only 23, he'd fit our model brilliantly. The main question would be whether we were able to attract him over other potential suitors like United or Barca.

He starts nearly every game for PSG, he isn't going anywhere.

Real quality in that wishlist bar Seri who I don't get fuss over, think he's very inconsistent.. if we had the money that would be some window
