I rate De Ligt very very highly. I even wanted him instead of Sanchez. But 50m is a bit too much

We need De Jong more than him

There is truth, and has been for a very long time. Will we actually formalise is another question. Please
Thanks! And not sure if you can answer this one now but if we lose Danny as well do you feel as if we will bring in a direct replacement?
No problem if you can't get into that mate!

Surely you can answer that Q yourself mate?
Poch relies heavily on the full backs and always wants/has two decent options at RB and LB so he can rotate through the busy schedule so if/when Rose goes, of course we will bring in a ready to go replacement.

This is the first time in years I’m really struggling to see how we would realistically improve.

If as expected Toby and Rose go then we need top quality replacements at LB and CB to keep our current level.

The only other 3 areas to look at are:
CM: will Dembele stay, how fit is Winks... mabye we need another body in there.

Attacking mid: Will Sissoko or Lamela be sold? Unlikely but if so or if not do we bring in one more option like Malcom who we were looking at? I personally think that we’d only do that if one of the above leaves otherwise we’d have too many options and players would get disgruntled at lack of playing time.

Striker: we need to upgrade Llorente but only option I see here is a youngster will loads of potential who’s happy to get a similar amount of game time to Foyth for example as Kane is first choice and then Son is back up so that we can give Lucas more game time.

It’s a fine balancing act and probably actually will be one of the more straight forward windows for Poch and Levy and co.

Ideal/realistic ins and outs:
Outs:
Toby
Rose
Sissoko
Llorente

Ins:
De Ligt
Sessengon (if we think he will cover LB, if not then get a proper LB in)
Malcom
Justin Kliuvert or a young ST

Spurs eye up Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt for £50m summer swoop as Toby Alderweireld talks stall

Tottenham are keeping close tabs on the talented Dutchman

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a potential £50m summer swoop for Ajax teen sensation Matthijs de Ligt as speculation builds over the future of Toby Alderweireld.

The 18-year-old Netherlands international centre-back has been catching the eye of top clubs around Europe in recent seasons, including Barcelona and Arsenal, but football.london understands that Tottenham are also interested in the teenager, who could cost as much as £50m.

The north London outfit traditionally do their business later in transfer windows, but after that strategy drew some frustrated words from manager Mauricio Pochettino this season, Spurs could look to move for De Ligt early this summer in order to fend off some of their bigger spending rivals and land one
He's a fantastic young talent, no question. But do we need him with Vertongen, Sanchez, Dier and Foyth already here? I don't think so. I really like what I've seen so far from Foyth and would like to see him get more playing time next year. Signing De Ligt would push Foyth further down in the pecking order and we don't need to do that. I think he can do the job.

If we're making a big money signing I'd like it to be a CM. Dembele is fantastic when he's healthy but he isn't getting any younger and he's injury prone. We're one more Dembele injury away from having a huge hole in the squad. We need to cover that hole up.

I'd be content with a Rose for Shaw and cash swap. I think Poch can get the best out of him and he can be a rotational piece with Davies. Sessegnon to rotate in with them as a wingback when we go three at the back and continue his development further as a winger the rest of the time. Bring in a top level replacement for Toby: Lenglet, Tah, De Ligt would be my top 3 choices. I think all of them have massive potential. Arp for me would be satisfactory in the striker position. I like the idea of a young player who idolizes Kane and is a Spurs fan, to me that would give him all the motivation in the world to get better and follow in Kane's footsteps. Then you bring in a midfielder who is a pass first type of player. Other than that maybe we bring back Pau Lopez on a free for a future goalkeeper/backup. That would be a perfect summer for me.

I think for the money we would want, interest in Rose will be slim to none given his difficult road back from injury. There are still 3 years on his contract and he can't 'force' a move if no-one's interested. With that (and Toby's apparent departure in mind) in mind:

A CB who can play on the left of a pair (and by extension either in the middle or on the left of a 3). Personally I would prefer experience over youth for this one.
A defensive playmaker (think Carrick, Xabi Alonso) to rotate with/offer something a bit different to Dembélé in the CM pairing. Perhaps @Bus-Conductor can advise on good choices?
Bale. @THFCSPURS19; presumably this is why you rated my post funny?

Ship out:
Toby (not through my choice).
Sissoko.
Llorente (I am sad it's not worked for him here).
Janssen.
Nkoudou.
CCV (even though he's doing well at Ipswich, I don't believe he's the right sort of CB to make it here).

Loan out:
Onomah.
Edwards.

Edited to tag.

If you watch the video of De Ligt leading the Ajax chants last season, aged 17, I think it tells you all you need to know.

Kid has the brain of a veteran, has everything needed to be a world class CB.

Agree with you on almost all of that. Perhaps Given the choice between a young striker like ARP (who excites me but we’d struggle to find the game time to develop and is presently a less reliable premier league goal scorer than even Llorente) and using Son there as our ‘12th’ man, I think I’d prefer to overpad our squad in midfield instead and perhaps bring in a ‘potential superstar’ there like Pulisic/Malcom.

To that extent I’d stretch to bring in both Eriksen cover (Maddison) as I see Barca making a big play and tempting him after the first year grace period in the stadium.

Also I love victor but don’t see him accepting more than another year as a reserve so I’d bring in Frenkie De Boer as his long term replacement even if to get much game time it requires shoe horning him into the sweeper role he’s now playing while he adapts to the English game...

Other than that our musings seem similar:

For a net spend of perhaps 40 million in the Bielsa style 3-3-3-1 I suspect Potch is envisioning, it gives us a youthful squad thatcould win anything:

Kane

Dele Eriksen Lamela

Shaw Dier Aurier

Davies Vert Sanchez

Lloris

Question for all you football boffins from someone who's woefully out of touch with the hottest footballing prospects from outside England, who's the player out there that closest resembles Pirlo/Modric (excluding modders himself) in terms of style of play and ability.

That's who I would like us to sign.

Sessegnon above all else. Will be silly money, like Modric and Bale were, and we will have the outstanding youngster in the country whose value will double again in no time.
Madison and Brooks worth a punt too.
We should try to get Jadon Sancho from Dortmund, unlikely to happen, but would be a real coup.
Sessengon would be a signing I would like to see but I would to see us add some experience to the team in addition to young, emerging and slightly until proven talent just to knit it all together.

If we were to bring in a left footed CB I wonder how we would line up the three in the back. I know its minor, but I really liked Sanchez in that middle spot cleaning up all the leftovers. Would we play two left footed players on either side of him?

I'm not sure Vic's considered a reserve as such. He did have a pretty serious injury and Pochettino's been keen not to disrupt the harmony of a winning team in the league.

You could play Foyth on the right.
