True but that Man Utd side was quite old as shown below, you look at the posts in this thread and people just want to keep our low squad age, low
data-graph-average-age-kids_3331610.jpg

Ours wouldn't be on that graph, as our average is under 25. Yes it will be a year older but we are likely to only have 5 players who are 28 or older in Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dembele, Lloris and Vorm(though he doesn't count as he shouldn't play more than 10 league games)

Not to mention that Man Utd side did sign Leeds best player in Eric Cantona

Ideally we just need one guy experienced player who has been there and got the tee shirt and add that belief like Cantona did

It would never happen but Ibrahimovic could add that same arrogance and belief that Cantona did
Yes, I agree about age, just was talking about experience winning. Cantona actually only played 15 games for Leeds the year they won it, so definitely wasn't their best player for their team, and 22 the year Utd won (the league was 42 games long in both seasons).

I think we need a player with flair that can make chances from nothing (like Cantona did) rather than a player that has won the leagues before, though if they had both, that would be perfect.

Ibra would be awesome, but I'm not sure his personality would be the right fit.

We won't do it, but even for next season - we need an old veteran who has been in a title race. Someone who does not need to play a lot, but is a positive influence in the dressing room - its one thing for the coaching staff to talk to the players on how to act, we need that presence in the dressing room also.
We have those players. Alderweireld has also been in a CL title fight.

Im only going to say what Ive been repeatedly been saying. We need a little bit more beef in key areas so that our 2nd 11 is not so much worse than our 1st.

Striker maybe a couple of central mids. Winger/ACM and a full back if one going.

O Dembele, Lacazzete, Batshuyi type signings would be great.

we need someone in here (ITK) to clear up the Batshuayi links. I've dug myself in a bit of an emotional hole watching 7 Marseille games in past three days...

Yesterday's game showed that we need some game changers coming on off the bench. Some pace perhaps or a Alex Witsel type player with experience of high pressure situations.Leaders on the pitch.

I watched Kane a bit yesterday and in all the fracas going on he was there trying to keep the peace and refocus our players. We need more of these in our squad.

I seem to remember that exact quote wrt Batshuayi being made in January. He wanted to finish the season with Marseille and not jeopardize his chance of getting into the Belgian team for Euro 2106 by joining another team in a another league so close to the Euro's.

I doubt he will be playing for Marseille next season.

How to you rate him? Strengths and weaknesses from what you've seen?

Marseille through 3 different managers still play boring AVB-like attack. Michy sits upfront, and I mean sits, he doesnt move from the last man at all, he touches the ball maybe once every 3-4 minutes and 60% of the time it is a layoff, albeit a good touch. But when he does make a meaningful move or gets ball in promising position he always seems to threaten.

Deceptive speed, doesn't seem blistering but always seems to beat the defender for speed, even Umtiti who I though was decent enough for speed but put that down to his perfect balance of speed and raw power, crazy lower body strength. Good technique, always seems to layoff the ball perfectly and his touch is great. 7/10 weak foot which I believe is more than good enough but can still be worked on under Poch. Knack for scoring goals and I believe he has an underrated passing game, also good vision for a FWD. Good fitness levels.

Weaknesses. I'm not if it's just me but he seems to be a little lazy closing down opponents and when marseille are attacking but tbh it's an issue that could come down to how they set up, remembering they are very slow.

I like him :)

Need to ship out the following.

Chadli
Son
Bentaleb

Bring in.

1 first choice striker, Kane style.
1 backup striker, Kane style.
Berahino as a wide striker.
Backup/alternative to Dier (wish we had bought Imbula)

When Man Utd finished 2nd to Leeds in 1991-92, They had 3 players that had won leagues out side of England's top flight (McClair - Scottish league, Schmeichel - Danish league and Bruce - Division 2) and the only player they bought when the won the league the next season that got decent mins was Cantona and he had just won the league with Leeds.

I do think it is worth noting that the season Man Utd finished 2nd, they were 1st with 5 games to go, but lost 3, drew 1 and won 1 in those last 5 games.

You guys do realise we have Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Eriksen who have experience of winning a title?

Pretty surprised at how many want Son gone to be honest. Talk about impatient.

Agree, I think he'll be a lot better next season and has shown flashes of quality this season. Class player, just needs to refine his game a bit more to the prem and this first season will have helped him towards that.

From the first part of the quote it sounds abut like how Ricky Lambert played under Poch, I've watched afew OM games but really just watched Nkoudou so thanks for your assessment mate ☺

I'm sure any potential signing will know they have to work their associated of to get into the team which is great

One good thing I do know about him is he supposedly has issues regarding his attitude but those have passed and he has grown up mentally!

If you strip away of best starting X1, there is a lack of real quality and no game changer. Chelsea had the luxury of bringing Hazard on to change the game, we didn't have that option, which I believe needs to be addressed in the summer. I know a top quality game changer will be difficult to secure, as all other top teams will be interested with bigger wage offers.

in my view thats what has cost us the title
too many draws against teams that we have dominated but we have nothing on the bench to make a change, home games we havent even been able to go 442 when we need a goal which is shocking really, on the bench against west brom we had no one that we would bring on that would cause the opposition to worry
we have had a great season but still think we should have got another striker, next season will be different as with CL we wont be able to rest players midweek

Not saying you're wrong, far from it, but having Hazard and Oscar on the bench is like us having Eriksen and Alli there towards the end of next season if they stink up the place the entire season.
Our depth is indeed worse than it's been for years, but it's been by choice from Pochettino to build the attitude and togetherness we currently have. Will be interesting to see what he want in the summer.

Agreed. Bringing a Witsel instead of a Mason might have seen out a win yesterday.

It's pretty clear what we need.
- replace one of Carroll/Mason/Bentaleb with a relatively young yet experienced DM
- replace Chadli (also remember Townsend has gone) with a better WF
- bring in ST

That's the first 3 on the list.
I think everyone else deserves another season before you out Davies, Son and Co.

The above is completely achievable with our CL, TV money etc

Three strikers? What kind of reaction are you looking for when posting that?

Would like Batshuyi(?) or lacazette. Keep Clinton.
Need a midfielder. One with some experince and quality. Witsel? And a young talented winger.

Fazio, chadli, mason and bentaleb should be considered sold. For some reason id like to keep Carroll.
