Don't think so.
Modric, Bale Berbatov VDV were great.
You mean Soldado and Paulinho we've had more successful transfers than not.
O and bye the way MP won't need a 100 million transfer kitty.
Berbatov 10 mill,Bale 5 mill, vdv 9 mill. That big money? Bent was 18 mill, son 22 mill, soldado 26

I know Bentaleb is a talented footballer, but we're going to be fighting for top honours next year, we need better cover than Bentaleb. He's just not mature enough yet to *not* make a mistake in a high pressure situation.

You mean like the one Dier made against West Brom, before he became invisible the last 45 minutes ?

Son is not a flop. This notion that if you don't set the PL on fire in first season you are a flop is a fucking joke.

All the outcry about getting a lot of "better" players in to be able to fight for both PL- and CL-title next season is a shortsighted no-patience-approach we shouldn't be about.

We're ahead of schedule regarding development of the team, and our biggest improvement over this season will again come down to the coaching-job on those we already have.
Adding very few (+/- 3) new players into the mix, keeping those we want to keep, and we can be very ambitious and confident about getting even better - regardless of what other teams are doing.

It's a marathon, not a sprint, and we should always keep building for more than just one season ahead.
For next season our main-goal should be to equal or better our final league-position from this season - and for now, until we're in the new stadium, the rest of the competitions are just sprint-bonuses in this marathon.

This is a strawman argument. I have not claimed that spending for spending's sake will invariably lead to success.

On the contrary, I've explicitly argued that that I expect City, Chelsea, United, Liverpool and Arsenal to improve not only because they have the resources to acquire their targets, but also because all of the clubs are in a position to make strides. All of them are either undergoing transition under brilliant managers or are just a couple players away from completing their squads (like us). The same could be said for West Ham.

To expect that all of our rivals will perform to the low standards of this season is incredibly optimistic (I know you specifically aren't saying this but others are). We need to continue making improvements, and the right signings at the right positions (N.B. not necessarily big money or big name players) will see us do just that.
Those clubs will invariably be competing over transfer targets though. I'd like to stay out of that battle and stick to picking out gems for lower prices.

If we sign anyone for big money that I haven't personally watched myself I'm going to be incredibly sceptical of why we were the club to reel them in when clearly the other teams could blow us out of the water for wages.

Batshuayi because it's who we clearly identified as the backup/rotation striker
Boufal because he brings something our attack lacks, and won't be too high profile to complain about not being a starter
Dendoncker because he's a physical young DM with high intensity which suits our style perfectly

We don't need anything else.

Schurrle £20m

Ousmane Dembele £15m

Axel Witsel £20m

All offer something we dont have and add to the team as a whole. Dembele will be a difficult one to close, but Schurrle should be doable, and he offers a lot of what we dont have, pace, power and directness. That will complement the skills we already have.

Witsel is a player that can both play with dier or play instead of dier, he is quality and can also pass from deep, something we maybe lack as an option.

These would be my priorities, though if our scouting network finds young players we can mold into such a role I will not be disapointed.

I think you will find that a shockingly large proportion of SC users are already in favor of Only 3 additions to the senior squad.

We are an attractive prospect. We have a top manager, a young squad that is performing to a high standard, CL football, and most importantly ambition as evidenced by the training ground and stadium projects.

We will not be reduced to second-rate targets that other clubs don't want. We've managed to buy very well in the market from a worse position than we will be in this summer, I don't see that suddenly changing.

When it comes down to it as long as Poch is happy with our squad next season then I'm fine much as I have my own wish list of players which tends to match what people on here are saying like Witsel, Boufal etc.

I hope Poch in giving his long term commitment got assurances from Levy we will be able to use some of the money we will now get from the CL to get the player he wants. Speculate to accumulate, we sign the right players we can push on further.

Also hopefully our transfers don't drag on to the last day, the whole Berahino thing hung over our club in such an awful manner at the start of the season. Sorting out our squad early and having a good preseason would be nice this time round.

I stick by that post (had davies in where rose is in original post, but rose, obviously, now, is the starter).

Tielemans, Isco, Batshuayi/Lacazette and maybe take a look at Ball as DM cover and bring someone in if not deemed good enough.

Again, that sort of thing.

I'd also look to move Vorm on and bring in Robles from everton as our #2 (if he'd come). Saw him up close when they played watford the other week and I rate him. Very calm, stable keeper. Just has had to deal with a shite defense in front of him.

If anything happened to Lloris we'd need a better deputy now imo.

It's hard to think of players going, but we might have to look to moving on...

Carroll
Mason
Bentaleb (looks like he's a gonner anyway)
Yedlin
Fazio
Chadli

And look to have a squad that can challenge on all fronts, all competitions and sustain a CL campaign and re-qualify:

Lloris
Robles
Walker
Rose
Davies
Trippier
Vertonghen
Alderwiereld
CCV
Wimmer
Dembele
Dier
Ball
Tielemans
Isco
Lamela
Pritchard
Son
Eriksen
Alli
Njie
Kane
Batshuayi

That's just an example of the sort of depth of quality I see us needing to challenge across all comps next season: Premiership, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League (and potential drop into Europe League) and to cover injuries and suspensions and to properly rest players and have them fit, fresh and ready for the toughest fixtures.

Next season is going to be ridiculously competitive with another lump of TV cash being used to bolster already much improved squads across the board.

Time to get serious with this squad.

*couldn't be arsed to do loans, but there would obviously need to be some for onomah, winks etc
I like that squad. Only thing I'd change is I'd stick with Bentaleb and not worry about Tielemans.

Batshuayi because it's who we clearly identified as the backup/rotation striker
Boufal because he brings something our attack lacks, and won't be too high profile to complain about not being a starter
Dendoncker because he's a physical young DM with high intensity which suits our style perfectly

We don't need anything else.

I'd actually prefer Lacazette but I think he'll go elsewhere. Those are 3 attainable players who would round off our squad perfectly IMO.

This would make a beautiful transfer window, but Poch has said that he wants Prem proven players, I think we will get Wanyama

No more love for moussa Dembele?

I'd have him in the squad if he's going cheap. spursking would agree that he's an exciting player

ROBBEN Might fancy one last crack at Premier League. He's a c*** but he'd be our c***. Because he can be mercurial, a game-changer. Won't and can't play every game.

Seems we've gone cold on him. Probably Mitchell's blackbox has gone haywire on Batshuayi's potential.
