BBC Live Text
13:25 GOAL- Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham - John O'Shea (40 mins)
Sunderland have been under the cosh for much of this half but they snatch the lead with five minutes to go to the break. Sebastian Larsson's free-kick from the left is swung in to the box and when Tottenham fail to clear, Hugo Lloris is forced to pull off a good save from a close range shot but is powerless to prevent John O'Shea firing home on the follow-up. Good timing for the defender to get his first goal for the Black Cats.
13:33 HALF-TIME - Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham
13:51 GOAL - Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham - Carlos Cuellar og (48 mins)
Not a good minute for Carlos Cuellar. His foul gave Tottenham the free-kick from which they forced a corner and then he rose to head Kyle Walker's delivery past his own keeper. Just the start Spurs wanted to the second half. Sunderland's lead is wiped out.
13:54 GOAL - Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham - Aaron Lennon
Tottenham have turned this game around in a flash. Sunderland have contributed to their own downfall as well. Matthew Kilgallon deflects the ball into the path of Aaron Lennon, who nips way too easily around John O'Shea before planting a shot past the advancing Simon Mignolet. Simple for Spurs, shocking for Sunderland.
14:04 GREAT SAVE! - Latest: Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
What a save! Simon Mignolet take a bow. Tottenham charge forward and Gareth Bale looks to have put a goal on a plate for Jermain Defoe with a cross from the left that gives the striker plenty of goal to aim for from six yards out. Defoe stumbles slightly before shooting but that takes nothing away from Mignolet's superb reaction save to palm the ball away.
14:18 SUBSTITUTION Tottenham's turn to twist as Jermain Defoe is removed and replaced by Clint Dempsey.
14:25 YELLOW CARD Gareth Bale has got himself into some trouble with what the referee deems a dive. He charges into the box and tumbles after Craig Gardner came across and put his arm across him.
14:26 SUBSTITUTION Scott Parker joins the action as a substitute, replacing Aaron Lennon.
14:33 SUBSTITUTION Gareth Bale leaves to boos from the home crowd to be replaced by Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Tottenham are aiming to maintain their much-coveted place in the Premier League top four when they travel to Sunderland on Saturday.
Andre Villas-Boas' men eased past hapless Aston Villa in a comfortable 4-0 away win on Boxing Day to move back into fourth spot.
But they travel to Wearside in Saturday's televised lunchtime kick-off to face a home side which has started to show signs of improvement during an encouraging December.
Adam Johnson's winner in the 1-0 home triumph against his former club Manchester City was Sunderland's third win in their last four top-flight games.
The victory moved the Black Cats seven points clear of the relegation zone, just three weeks after they had dropped into the bottom three following a morale-sapping run of one win in 10 matches.
However, the recent run has boosted confidence around the Stadium of Light and the feelgood factor seems to have returned among fans who were not shy in voicing their frustrations less than a month ago.
Whether the festive cheer will continue against in-form Spurs remains to be seen.
Villas-Boas has an array of attacking talent at his disposal and they clicked into gear in ruthless fashion at Villa Park.
But what must please the Portuguese boss is their run of one defeat in seven matches has been built on defensive solidity.
Spurs kept just one clean sheet in their opening 14 games, which included heavy defeats against top four rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.
However, they have not conceded in any of their last three matches and could consolidate fourth spot, which they hold above Everton on goal difference, with another three points.

Sunderland

Sunderland left-back Danny Rose, on a season-long loan from Tottenham, is ineligible to play against his parent club.
Fellow defender Phil Bardsley could replace Rose in a straight swap or Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill may opt to drop back Jack Colback from midfield.
Central defender John O'Shea looks set to return after missing the Boxing Day win against Manchester City through illness.

Tottenham

Forward Clint Dempsey (groin) and midfielder Tom Huddlestone (knee) may return for Tottenham, while defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto could make his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury.
England midfielder Scott Parker could make his first start of the season after an Achilles problem.
Midfielder Mousa Dembele (hip) should be fit despite coming off against Aston Villa, but defender Younes Kaboul (knee) remains out.

As they prepare for their final action of 2012, it's fair to say that it's been an eventful 12 months for both of these clubs.
A year ago Sunderland were four games into Martin O'Neill's reign and had only a three-point cushion above the relegation zone, while Spurs were third behind both Manchester clubs. At that stage any thoughts of Harry Redknapp departing were only for the England job.
However Andre Villas Boas, just like Redknapp did, enters the last match of the year with his team occupying a top-four spot and with hopes of Champions League qualification as genuine as a year ago.
He has his team playing with real belief at the moment in a run that has seen them take 16 points from a possible 21. I witnessed their only defeat in that run, when they were leading heading into stoppage time at Everton.
Gareth Bale continues to excel, Jermain Defoe has benefited from regular starts, while the additions of the likes of Dembele, Vertonghen, Dempsey and Lloris have certainly enhanced the squad.
Half of their 10 wins have come on the road so they'll be confident of continuing that on the back of their biggest win so far under Villas Boas.
There is, though, a little more optimism on Wearside at the moment. Having recently had to quash rumours that he handed in his resignation, O'Neill has lightened the mood by masterminding three wins from the last four games. There was no better Christmas present for him than a home win over the reigning champions.
If his two major summer purchases can hit top form in the second half of the season then Sunderland shouldn't be looking over their shoulders. Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson have half of the team's goals between them so far, but the problem has often been converting the chances created. They need their big players to perform on a more regular basis.
Sunderland have proved on their day at home that they can be a match for most, the big question now is can they reproduce it against another of the top-four challengers?

Head-to-head

    • Tottenham have only one won of their last seven league games at Sunderland (W1, D3, L3).
    • The Black Cats failed to score in both of last season's encounters with Spurs.

Sunderland
      • The Wearsiders have won three of their last four league games, keeping clean sheets in each of those victories.
      • They have only gained one point from losing positions this season - the joint-worst record in the division.
      • Victory would give Sunderland three successive home wins, a feat they last managed in February 2012 following victories against Manchester City, Swansea and Norwich.
      • Opta statistics show that the Black Cats have blocked more shots (91) than any other Premier League team this term.

Tottenham Hotspur
    • Spurs' 4-0 win at Aston Villa was their biggest victory under Andre Villas-Boas, and their largest winning margin since a 5-0 victory against Newcastle in February.
    • Gareth Bale has nine league goals this season, equalling his best tally in a Premier League campaign.
    • Sandro has made 74 interceptions in this season's Premier League, more than any other player.

COYS another difficult away game, especially considering their result against City. If we can get a positive result today it will have been a brilliant Christmas. Hope Benny & Parker get a run out.

*Enters thread, puts a box of knee bandages and an assortment of rubber knives and elasticated nooses on the table for anyone to use when we aren't 16-0 up after three minutes.

Feeling quietly confident on this one as after there win against city they will go gun ho and we will easily pick them off and punish them on the counter. Thus game is made for us

This will be a tough game, we could not break them down last season, don't expect a Villa scoreline today.

Which clubs do we have a good record against and which don't we? Is there a good website to look up?

All I know is we had a godawful record against MU at OT and even at WHL and haven't got results against Wigan ever since we killed them 9-1. Don't remember us having a good record at Bolton when they were in the PL.

I thought our record was better than that. We should have more quality than them just make sure we shut down sessegnon.

The one thing i would counter that with is the fact that we have at least 2 players (dembele/bale) that can always beat a man or 2 to perhaps open them up a bit, also we are probably the most athletic/fastest team in the pl player wise so we need to use that to our advantage today.
