in the summer for Modric after the latest comments from Mancini...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...o-Mancini-targets-Tottenhams-Luka-Modric.html

Now I know we are in the driving seat given the length of his contract and if (I emphasise if) we are persuaded to let him go this summer surely City would be a better destination than United and definitely Chelsea.

City arn't really our direct competition like Chelsea are at the moment and we could rinse them the most.

Factor in Adebayor, and we would have some serious leverage.

I would prefer him to stay obviously but only if he actually wants to play for us...providing of course we finish top 4, if we don't I would understand his desire to move.

Modric wants to get that big pay-cheque and fair enough.

We've kept him a year longer than he wanted to stay once the big wage spenders came calling. I don't want Modric to leave but I believe we'll have to accept a big offer at some point.

Maybe now is the time to sell and try and develop the Sandro and Parker partnership.

Hopefully we'll make it perfectly clear to Man City that if they want him then they need to pay £50m and do it at the beginning of the window.

Modric is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Premier League - linked with both Manchester United and Chelsea last summer, much to Harry Redknapp's annoyance.

And the 26 year-old has once again shone this season as Spurs push for the coveted fourth Champions League spot.

Mancini, with practically unlimited funds at his disposal, will look to strengthen his side when the next transfer window opens, and the Italian has revealed that Modric is top of his wish list.

The City manager already has a wealth of talent in midfield at the Etihad Stadium with David Silva, Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure, and he said: "Luka Modric is an outstanding footballer, a great player. He is definitely one of the best in the Premier League.

"It is by no means easy to get him because he plays for a big club, Tottenham. It is unlikely that they would let him leave.

"We are lucky to have another great player from these parts in Edin Dzeko.
"I have worked with quite a few players from these parts - not just Croatians, but Bosnians, Serbs and Montenegrins.
"I have many friends among them and I am very proud of it.
"They are really something special and they mostly play with invention and creativity."

I can't see anywhere that Mancini says he's going after Modric. He acknowledges the quality and says that it wouldn't be easy to sign him, then says they are lucky to have Dzeko. If anything, it's him ruling out a chance of signing him.

It's starting early, this bullshit headline twisting, where the actual article says nothing of the sort. THIS Is the sort of thing that will unsettle Modric, the constant speculation by journos desperate to see him move, for some bizarre reason.

I'd be very surprised if he did say straight that they'll go for him.

That's enough to suggest interest and with their money interest quickly materialises into a bid.

It is the start of the unsettling game, that's why he's made the comments.

Just get Rodgers to bring a couple of his lot with him, Joe Allen would do for a start

It's very clever by Mancini though, don't you think? He's putting his interest out there, but in the same breath he is bascially saying that he knows Daniel Levy won't want to sell. So he is already filling Lukas head up with the idea that he could be earing "filthy Lukas" (see what I did there ;-) ) up at the ctiy of etihad maine arena.

Whatever happens, this is probably going to be a long long summer. Which is why we need our manager situation sorted out right at the end of the season so as we all know where we stand.

it would be better to get less money from abroad, and factor in a massive 70 percent sell on clause if our former stars were sold back to the prem. (otherwise 50 or 40 percent)

this is the only way it can make any sense. we have to start next season all guns blazing and, hopefully, have another tilt at the title.

Mancini might not be around to make those decisions.....

Regardless of that, we'll have to fear the worst when it comes to Modric this summer. I'm sure Levy will try to resist again but if he refuses to listen to serious offers (not like Chelsea's pathetic attempts) and Modric wants out then he will 'down tools' this time round.

£50m is a lot of cash for a new manager/coach to spend in replacements.

Cabaye has impressed me hugely this season; he'd be an interesting signing.

It's no more than Redknapp has said about players. Only a couple of weeks ago he was quoted as saying we tried to sign Remy but Marseille wouldn't sell and that we are interested in Hazard. He's also talked about Premiership players before.

Ferguson has made similar statements about Modric.

Totally agree, but we know Modric wants to leave at the end of the day. City won't fuck around with the bidding either, I reckon we'll see a massive bid from them in the the summer.

Mancini's been on holiday in the Balkans, it's natural that the media down there are going to ask about home-grow players, such as "Mancini, what do you think of Luka Modric?" It's like the press over here when they speak to anyone about Tennis always ask for a view on Andy Murray. So what's Mancini going to say? I think it's probable he's going to say "Modric is a fantastic little player, one of the best in the PL!" To which the interviewr replies "Do you want him at City?" "He's already at one of the big clubs in the PL, it would be very hard for anyone to get him blah, blah,"

I wouldn't want to lose Luka, but if City were serious and Luka wants to go, i would insist on Dzeko in return, oh and with loads of dosh too.

That could be exactly the way it transpired Sloth, but at the end of the day there will be interest in him come the summer. Couple that with his desire to leave last summer and there is bound to be another saga.

All I'm saying is that if it were a choice between City and Chelsea, I know which one I would prefer to be dealing with.

Suspend his wages then.
