Depends who you are playing - im not sure there is just one way to go always. Didnt we wipe the floor with stoke in our lopsided 4-4-2?

Its about recognizing what system you need to play when.

Either way, great to see we have another system in our locker to provided at the very least some uncertainty for our opponents.

Absolutely. Eriksen has been in great form since he was out on the left. This wasn't his first time playing behind the striker... but was funnily enough his best performance this year. Sherwood is doing something that is enabling these players to start clicking and I am enjoying it.

I especially enjoyed MOTD talking about Sherwood's tactics last night. It's about time someone gave him credit for our work off the ball and our switch in formation when we have it. We played on the counter for good periods against Swansea and moved the ball very quickly forward. I barely saw us do that once under AVB.

So true!

I actually loved how we looked as if we were actively not shooting from range yesterday. Our plan seemed to be to play in behind them quickly, something we nearly did a few times before the first goal and continued to do it for the entire match. Had our final balls been better we could have had 5 or 6.

For me, its no surprise that we are starting to see the 4-3-3 now. Its been clearly shown as our formation of choice up through the youth ranks and was only a matter of time

People calling for it from the offset were too quick to forget how hard it can be to play a new formation without a bit of practicing on the training pitch first, something we have only had a couple of full weeks to do so far under Tim.

Just goes to show some people could probably stand learning a little bit of patience

With Liverpool dropping points this is a massive opportunity for us to try to achieve a Champions League place, which makes me worried that we'll do a "Spurs" and not capitalise and take all three points. Could this game be the defining game of our season? If we win we not only put pressure on the bin dippers next game but also on Everton's game on Monday against West Brom. Is anyone else worried?

Was it ever in doubt? Lol.....just need West Brom to do us a favour tonight!

You could argue what Tim has done is drop the high line / pressing tactic that AVB continued to play. It works to a point but not only did it stifle the time and space of the opposition but it done the same for our supposed superior attackers. Now we have created more space with more quicker attacks, giving the attackers the platform to show their quality, and the defences we play against have less time to park the bus.

Lennon really drives me crazy, wish I had a pound for everytime he loses the ball or makes a wrong decision,I would be a millionaire now.
if I had a pound for evertime our great goalkeeper LLoris kicked the ball to the opposition! (10/12 times yesterday) Id also be a millionaire eventually!

. Stupid decision from Dembele really as he was too square to get the required whip. Danny Rose really did help out Dembele there with his ball a few seconds later.
I have re watched it and I am convinced now as I was at the time, had Dembele passed to Ade, Ade would have been offside. Plus there are no guarantees Ade would have scored. Less we forget, I have seen Ade miss quite a few sitters, not this season though I hasten to add.

Maybe so but Dembele never thought he was offside and thats all that matters. That was shown in his reaction to Ade having a go at him, he never attempted to argue it but simply apologized. So even if Ade was off, Dembele in his position, should have passed. It's been one of our biggest problems for years (Defoe and Lennon big culprits for it), we make the wrong decision at the wrong time at key moments.

A little late to the party but this is the first game where tactically Sherwood started to convince me a bit. He showed some flexibility and adaptation.

Of course Dembele took the shot on, just like most players would. Human nature. IF there is any criticism to be made its that he didnt score himself considering his position.

Agreed. The problem with this obsession with what formation we are playing or not, is as soon as we have a bad game people will start banging on and on about how we should have played 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 blah blah.

When actually you will have good games and bad games playing any formation.

We know he can mix it up, and that he can think outside the box (Bentaleb against Mancs, Walker right wing) so maybe just accept that he is going to try and pick a side and formation that will do the job on a game per game basis. And so far it is working more often than not. And when it doesnt, or heaven forbids, he gets it wrong accept that is how it goes. Its nice that we are now tactically flexible enough to have the options.

Our two best games were played 4-4-2 against Stoke and 4-3-3ish against Swansea. Horse for courses.
