Happy about today. Results aside, I thought the early obsession for 442 was a bit too rigid and leaves us overrun against a central 3. Lallana's time to run from CM and spoilt out def against Southampton was typical of this.
However, Sherwood's switch to 4231 today shows a flexibility not seen so far. I think given AVB's fondness for that system (or versions of) and our subsequent transfer dealings, has left our squad loaded towards that formation. In a 442, we cannot accommodate our vast midfield options. Today, I thought we looked more balanced. I like that formation, AVB perhaps just had his players too regimented and marginalised in terms of going out not to lose rather than going out to play. That was why Soldado often got isolated. However, the players seem a bit more fluid now, and are closing the gap to our forward players. Lennon, Eriksen, Townsend, Holtby and Lamela can thrive with the freedom to break forwards more, so two the deeper two. Having a Sandro/Capoue type player naturally offering a more shielding role, Dembele/Paulinho partnering them can play heads up football, sit in without the ball, break forward with it.
Sherwood would not have been my first pick, and despite the results, I have not been sold on him, but today I am beginning to see a few more positives.
Having the two deeper players, they can provode greater cover allowing Walker/Rose to overlap, as has been seen today.

Another enjoyable game and good performance. I think AVB did a good job but it was never as fun to watch it has been the past few weeks.

We will have to see how Tim fairs against an in form top side like Chelsea, City and Arsenal.

The one thing thats massively improved is work rate...the players are just working so hard right now and you look at someone like Bentaleb who isn't as talented as Capoue but he runs his socks off and is everywhere.

I really disagree,I would say Bentaleb has way more natural ability than Capoue.

There are still a fair few on here so hope isn't quite lost yet thank god but when people still consider Soldado to eventually become our saviour and still keep having a go at Sherwood for no apparent reason then it is still a major concern

@TottenhamMattSpur is but one of a minority, we need a few more like him and then we'll be alright :)

No apparent footballing reason. If Sherwood wasn't so cock eyed, spoke with a foriegn accent and used a thesaurus in his interviews these 'fans' would be fine with TS as manager. They don't like to admit their prejudice though.

We have won lot of games this season. Difference earlier in season to now is, we actually deserve most of our wins now. There were times, we win games by some means by luck or sheer determination - Palace away, Fulham away etc. But now in recent games, we are actually performing better & probably deserve to win. That's really satisfying.

The 433 att is the way to go.... so much more balance and it gives the wing back more space to roam forward.

Overall this is the spurs that will win us games. In fact I don't understand why Sky says we start 451.... LOL

I really do wonder what the hell Hoddle is on about...he's ruling us out of the race for the top four if we don't replace Defoe....
Were you one of those who wondered why he was not rehired?

Adebayor was majestic. He's like a proper top new signing this season. Not only is he looking a deadly striker, but he's using the ball intelligently all over the pitch.

Absolutely loved his interview as well. Agree with @riggi he was dead serious. Stupid decision from Dembele really as he was too square to get the required whip. Danny Rose really did help out Dembele there with his ball a few seconds later.

All in all I thought we were very very good after starting off sluggish. Hopefully our formation went some way to appease the Sherwood doubters - but probably not because Soldado didn't play and he didn't start Lamela with an injury.

Bony = a taller stronger Defoe. Shift and shoot. All power, no precision. Not a bad thing. But he'd frustrate us.
Good player but not great.

I really disagree with that. He has a "good touch for a big lad", uses the ball well and has a good finish on him when the chance arises and he's certainly settled better than Soldado in the league despite Swansea's struggles.

Tims league record.
P6 W5 D1 L0 F13 A4 Pts 16

Man maths tells me that's an 86% win ratio. Further that's points average of 2.66 points per game.
2.16 Goals for.
0.66 goals against.

And yet there's still people moaning.

We played 4-4-1-1 and 4-3-3 as well :-( Sherwood out.

He's really got a thing for defoe...it's very very odd.

I like Hoddle as a pundit to a point. But the more I hear of him, the more I'm glad he didn't take over again. Weird views that are getting weirder since his best mate Sherwood was appointed.

Depends who you are playing - im not sure there is just one way to go always. Didnt we wipe the floor with stoke in our lopsided 4-4-2?

Its about recognizing what system you need to play when.

Either way, great to see we have another system in our locker to provided at the very least some uncertainty for our opponents.
