Now that everybody has become suitably pessimistic, and come down from our high horses, is it about time we recalibrate?

Drop the Board's idea that we must achieve a Top 4 spot.

and

Work to Jol's original target of Top 6 and a Cup?

Given our position i'd be over the moon if we made top 6 this season. I just cant see it.

A cup would be nice but top 6 would be better imo, consolidate and try again next season.

Top 6 would make it for me, can't see it happen though!

The only cup we have a slight chance of winning is the League Cup and i would take a Top-6 over that any day!

Surely winning a trophy would be more important. The FA Cup preferrably with it's entry into Europe. Would love to see Spurs win the UEFA Cup as well though as it would reestablish Spurs as a top European side with more European trophies than other British clubs bar Liverpool.

Rob Schneider was in the crowd yesterday. I heard him shout "You can do it!"

And you know what, WE CAN!

Come on guys, lets pull together and get behind the guys, we had worse times than these and survived.

I'll take top 6 and a Cup anyday.

Of course the FA cup carries the UEFA qualification (i'd forgotten) but i still feel its more important to keep on par with our rivals in the league. We are looking like we've fallen behind and for me personally it would be better to catch up.

Everyone want's that but you HAVE to be in contact with the real world. There's a reality out there....go out and have a look and you'll see that it won't happen this year.

Is that beeing negative?? NO, i'm beeing realistic!!

just imagine that feeling though the moment ledders or whoever is captain lifts the FA or UEFA cup...

it would be a spine tingling moment

id even take a trophy and not finish in top 6, but i really think we can acheive a top 6 finish and a cup.

I always hope for a cup - Michey, saying we only have a slight chance of winning the league cup is chuff, and you know it. The FA Cup is just as winnable, and form in that has never had any bearing on league form anyway

Three cups, three chances of silverware and i don't see the League cup as any less valuable than the others, despite what people say. I don't buy into this theory that top teams field sides to get knocked out early so they can concentrate on other things - if they didn't think that the team they were putting out was capable of competing then the FA should step in and whatever the squad, managers know that the black and white facts will be that they got knocked out by the underdogs and that's never a good headline.

Top 6 is a fair aim for us - it's doable, considering a couple of results going our way and a couple of wins will jump us up to the top half of the table, we just have to start showing before christmas as thats when the gap begins to develop between the top 7 or 8 teams and the rest. We need to be in that scrap for 6th in the next couple of months otherwise i don't see us making up the ground.

I'm basing it on that the Top 4 wants the FA-cup to much for us to even have a chance this year, nothing else.

I never thought we'd get top 4 in the first place - there were a few/many of us on here (and doubtless elsewhere) who just couldn't see it at all without buying certain key players and even then it was a stretch

My early season prediction was 7th and I'd happily settle (as I would have a month ago) for 9th and the League Cup plus non-humiliation/decent run in the other Cups

UEFA or FA Cup plus 9th even better still :)

Think top 6 is still in our sights with a good run, now that we've got the top four out of the way for a couple of months, this should boost our team moral. Think we'll have a good run in the UEFA cup & a win in any of the other two would be amazing.

9th!!!!!
You're easily pleased.
I too want to win a cup or two  but I want to at least hit 6th.
It shows how bad we've started that people are aiming lower!!

If we're going to get anywhere near to cathcing the likes of City, we have to click into gear quickly

IMO the people saying we can't get top 6 are the ones living in Cuckoo land. There are about 5-6 teams who could finish 5th-6th and we are included in that. Regardless of our league position, we are a run of 4 good games away from being there or there abouts.

Similarly, although our form so far this season hasn't shown this, we are a better squad this year than last and with the addition of Bale and Kaboul, a better first 11 too. Lets not forget, despite the fact we lost to the scum last year, it was far from a walk over and we were in it right upto the third goal in extra time. A cup is well within our potential this year.

There are 29 league games left this year, any talk of 5th-6th being impossible is nonsense

Really, now all we should be doing is taking every game as it comes and giving it everything we've got, we need to take all pressure off the team and stop talking about position in the table.

First thing is first, we need to start winning; we need Robbo on the bench, Chimbo needs a kick up the arse and we need to put our most in-form players on the pitch for every game...put our best foot forward. We need to spend every training session largely focusing on our defence/set pieces.

Every waking hour Jol has needs to be spent on fixing the problems we have, I know it's probably hard for him to be motivated as he knows he won;t be here next season, but he's still being payed to do a job and needs to stop fucking about. Step one is to drop Robbo.

:) Lee - yes I am easily pleased - when you've supported Spurs for nearly 50 years you learn not to expect too much or else you'll end up doing a lot more moaning than is good for a person -

I also am a big fan of the traditional Cups - so to me 9th and a League Cup is a good season - and depending how we went in the other Cups I might well make it a very good season

Incidentally I'm pretty sure that 9th is higher than our historical average - and of course our 16 trophies are spread amonst some 100+ seasons - so a trophy any season is pretty damn good -

Unless the wheels fall off, so to speak, at Citeh, i don't see many teams having an easy time catching them this year - they really have lit up the premier league so far, playing great football and looking like a real team.

They look like everything we aren't at the moment - confident and composed, high spirited and giving 100% and, most of all, taking their chances.

We've had ample chances in the last few games to put our oppo out for the count, but we waste them - leads me back to Defoe misfiring and Bent not gelling at all with our midfield or, apparently, either Keane or Berbatov.

Top 6 would be more achievable than a cup imo. Reaching top 6 isn't looking likely I have to say.

Off our high horses... followed by an idea we'll finish 6th or win a cup. Come on now.
