Corluka is fantastic defensively at RB. I hope he starts. Just think back to that Villa game when Zokora was up against Young and we were getting destroyed. Corluka is subbed on and their only threat is gone. Corluka is very good vs players like Young, Mata, etc. Walker could do a job at RM. Need 3 in CM (Modric/Sandro/Parker), and two on the wings (Bale/Pienaar and Walker).

PLAY CORLUKA!

That's right the slowest man in the world against ramieres!!!

WTF!!! Have you not seen how many times he's been caught out against pacey players?! Mata/Sturridge would destroy him.

I have nothing against the guy but tonight is the kind of game he would struggle in.
I really can't remember too many times. Corluka isn't fast but the way he defends, not many players beat him 1v1, and whatever he does, quick players seem to have little effect despite his lack of pace. Furthermore he doesn't push forward, which may be crucial vs Mata/Cole, because he won't get caught out.

Dude, did you not see the last game he played in?

I think it was the PAOK game? He got absolutely rinsed for one of the goals!

Damn guys. I completely realize Corluka is slow and Chelsea has fast players. But Corluka knows how to defend extremely well vs pace. I don't really think the speed affects him. Sure there may be one or two times, but a lot more than not, he defends very adeptly. I wish I could find the video of him vs Villa to remind you guys how he destroyed Ashley Young, who is very similar to Mata.

He doesn't go forward heavily either. He won't get caught out to the point where he has to chase back.

I personally am worried about Walker vs Mata. He will be caught out, and he is not nearly as good defensively as Charlie.

put him on the bench, just as in the villa game you mention. he came on for zokora at half-time, and that's when he negated ashley young.

Our whole defense was in shambles at that PAOK game though, I don't think the motivation in that game compared to this one can be compared, either. Plus, that was a really good ball, the problem was Livermore/Modric didn't press the passer.

Fast players do. Remember Villa away, Ashley Young ripped him up and i think Charlie got subbed. All mata will do is drop a shoulder, run the other way and he's passed him, cross to Drogba. Goal.

Zokora was bought off for Corluka after about 30 mins. Young got FA after that

No mate, Corluka absolutely dominated Young. One of the best defensive displays I've ever seen. Completely changed the game. I don't think he even played a cross when Charlie came on.

Corluka is perfect for players like Mata. He also helps on corners when they do have some big players.

im stunned how many changes people want to make for such a big game!

Kaboul @ RB?
Corluka @ RB?
Walker @ RM?
Pienaar @ RM?

Lets just stick with as near possible the same team that has put us in such a strong position. Walker must play @ RB with Kaboul in the middle. The only question really is who should play RM - i think bale and modric should be on either wing personally with Sandro coming in to replace Lennon

id normally agree but i worry about Chelsea's 3 man midfield against just him and Parker. Maybe a 4-2-3-1 would suit us more tonight

Friedal
Walker Kaboul King Benny
Sandro Parker Modric
VDV Ade Bale/Townsend.

No big changes, 3 man midfield to combat theirs, with Sandro/Parker covering the Right flank more.

why when we will have sandro parker we will control the mid imo

451

by saying Parker and Modric i was referring to us playing 4-4-2.......

id rather play 4-2-3-1 than 4-5-1 as id rather VDV played in a more advanced position than being stuck out wide
